Hush Money Book Review

Hush Money (Talent Chronicles)

Title: Hush Money
Series: Talent Chronicles
Author: Susan Bischoff

Official Summary
They call their abilities Talents, and that’s what they call themselves as well. Talents are people born with supernatural powers, feared by the population at large. Possession of an “unregistered ability” has become illegal, and those who are discovered are forcibly removed to government-run research facilities. For Talents, keeping their secret is the most important thing in their lives. For some, that need for secrecy begins to define who they are.

That’s how it is for Joss, a high school girl who does everything in her power to go unnoticed. She's incredibly bright, but strives to maintain grades that are good yet not too good. She doesn't participate in school activities, keeps quiet in class, eats by herself. Despite her longtime crush on Dylan, she wouldn't even think about trying to talk to him. Joss doesn't make friends of any kind, because friends can draw attention, friends can make you slip up, friends can make things complicated.

When new girl, Kat, steps in to rescue Joss from an uncomfortable situation with Marco, the class jerk, she doesn’t realize what she’s getting into, and it blows up in her face. Joss finds herself torn between a desire to do the right thing, to find some way to help a girl who was kind to her; and her need to mind her own business and fade into. For the first time, Joss begins to question the way she operates, and starts to long for connections with other people--especially a connection with Dylan, who's finally starting to talk to her.

But what's up with Dylan's sudden interest? As Marco’s best friend, can he be trusted at all?
It's bad enough when a girl's got to worry about friends, boys, over-protective dads, and shoes that pinch, but when you throw in blackmail, government agents with guns, and really annoying little sisters...that's just about too much to handle, even for a girl with an ass-kicking superpower.

My Review
Hush Money is the debut novel from author Susan Bischoff. I had the pleasure of interviewing her, click here to read our Q&A with Susan, and of reading her novel. This is a fantasy YA series that grabs your attention from the very first page. It is filled with an array of interesting characters that makes you want to be them, hate them, or just root for them to come out on top! This is the story of Talents. Talents are people with powers, and they are subject to government capture if they are discovered. This is why they hide their talents and try to stay under the radar, at least that's what Joss does. She is the heroine in this novel whose main focus in life is to go unnoticed. She is a Talent and she doesn't want anyone to know. If people find out what you are, the government comes and sends you to State school to conduct "research" on you - who wants that? Her plan worked until the day Kat came into her life. All of a sudden she finds herself with friends, a potential love interest, the target of a deadly threat, and in the middle of a  government official vs Talents show down that is out of this world! This book has everything I love in a YA novel: mystery, love, danger, excitement, and a kick ass heroine who can't quite figure out just how kick ass she really is! This book is a must read! It is truly all kinds of awesomeness. If you want an exciting YA fantasy novel that grabs you from the intro and leaves you wanting more, then this is the book for you!

This book is rated 4 fangs:

Have you read this book? If not, Are you running to put it in your TBR pile?! What did you think? Who is your favorite character? I must admit that I adore Joss, but love Kat. She is so "in your face" and spunky!

Author Spotlight and Q&A with Susan Bischoff!

Hush Money (Talent Chronicles)

Paromantasy would like to shine the spotlight on author Susan Bischoff. Susan's debut novel, Hush Money , is a fantasy book that was released earlier this month and quickly caught my attention. This is the first of the Talent Chronicles series. I am reaching the end of this book, and will post my review tomorrow. I can tell you that it is filled with everything I love: mystery, romance, danger, and talents that are just plain hot! Talk about page turner,  I can't seem to put this book down! I was lucky enough to meet Susan via Goodreads, and she was kind enough to do a Q&A with Paromantasy about her life, her book, and what it means to be a debut author.

Let's give a warm welcome to Susan Bischoff!
Tell us about yourself.

I’m just a girl who wants superhero romance! Is that so much to ask? Why must it always be a tragedy? Why does Angel walk away? Why does Spike—what did happen to Spike? Why did Wonder Woman go back home after the end of season 1 and WWII, then come back, work with Steve Trevor’s grandson, and still not hook up? Seriously! And let’s not even talk about Superman 4, ok? Let’s. Just. Not.

When did you know that you wanted to be a writer?
I’ve always been into making up stories, the way kids do, but I’ve always lived very much in my own head. When I played dolls as a kid, for example, I never voiced them out loud, they just had their dialogue in my head. I never stopped doing that, and never stopped having words (and yes, voices) in my head. There’s no big leap to putting those to paper, it’s showing the paper to someone else that can take a bit of prompting.

When I was in high school, I had a teacher take me aside and tell me, “You are a writer, and you’ll never be happy unless you’re writing.” Man, that’s stuck with me. Sometimes, in living with these characters and all their demons, I have to wonder if I’m happy while I’m writing either. But at the end of the day, I’m always happy, having written.

Where did you get the idea for Hush Money from?
Hush Money is the first story in the Talent Chronicles, and the series has long been in development, pulling bits of inspiration from lots of different places. But the short story on Hush Money is that I had taken a break from writing for an extended period and was having trouble getting back into it. My critique partner, Kait Nolan, suggested that I put the Talents aside for a while and start something fresh, maybe that would give me a jump start. But nothing appealed.

It was during yet another back-to-back, marathon viewing of the whole Buffy series on DVD (downtime is always used wisely), that I thought, Man, I would just love to have a character like that, to take a girl and grow her into her power, into who she’s going to be as a person. To see her struggle with responsibility and shoulder the burdens of a superhero.

That’s when Joss was born. The rest of the story was just about giving her what she needs in order to become what she can.

Who is your favorite character in Hush Money and why?
Well, it’s got to be Joss, right? There are a few that I love, and Dylan can be quite the charmer, but Joss is special.

Are your characters based on people you know?
First of all, every character is a facet of me. In order for me to hope to write a character with any sort of realism, there has to be a bridge, some kind of common ground I can cross. That doesn’t mean that they’re all the same, or that they are all me (oh my goodness!), but there’s something that I, personally, relate to in every character. It’s my hope that those bits of me are also things that my readers can relate to, so that they can make connections with the characters too, because that’s part of what makes reading rewarding.

Other than that, it’s random selection. Looks like this one, talks like that one, has the annoying habit of that guy over there. I mix it up. Kat looks like an absolutely beautiful girl from my high school, whom I didn’t really know, but always seemed sweet, and far less pushy than Kat. There are things about Dylan that remind me of my husband at that age, and yet he is also completely different. I’m sure that there are lots of quirks and traits that I’ve drawn from real people without being conscious of it.

Who are some of your favorite authors and why?
Ayn Rand was a big inspiration to me, as far as writing in general, and I really love the…bitterness I feel coming off of some of her characters. I’ve loved reading Shannon McKenna’s romantic suspense (adults only, please), for the way she can craft so much emotional intensity into such masculine Alpha hero packaging. Nora Roberts is where she is for too many reasons to talk about. Elizabeth Haydon’s Rhapsody, Prophecy, and Destiny books blew me away when I read them. And I absolutely swooned over reading the Mars manga series by Fuyumi Soryo. Fabulous teen melodrama.

Recently, I’ve been reading more indies. My good friends and mentors, authors Kait Nolan  and Zoe Winters write fantastic paranormal romance of the magical people/creatures variety, and have some serious world-building skills. New finds and friends are Stacey Wallace Benefiel and Imogen Rose who write paranormal romance with teen characters. Both of them rock and write characters you can’t stop thinking about when you have to be away from the book.

What books are you reading now?
I’m reading The Synthesis , first book in the Powerless series by Jason Letts. Opposite to mine, it’s about a girl who has no special ability in a world in which everyone has a superpower. Very imaginative and well-told. I can’t wait to finish it.

I’ve also got School's Out - Forever (Maximum Ride, Book 2), City of Bones (Mortal Instruments, No 1)) , and Wicked Lovely started and need to finish them. But any day I’m expecting Brody’s Ghost by manga artist Mark Crilley, whose Miki Falls series I adored, to arrive in the mail, and then who knows what will happen.

Was writing and publishing your book exactly how you imagined?
Hmm…It took longer to get Hush Money out there than I thought it would. I just deleted the long version of the story. The short of it is that even for an indie, it’s not all you. You need other sets of eyes on the project, and those eyes need time because, get this: their lives don’t revolve around your writing. Seriously, it was a shock, but that was what I learned. So getting those go-aheads put weeks into the process that I hadn’t counted on.

Other than that, not really. Maybe how not such a bit deal it was to format my work for Amazon and Smashwords. That was all smooth sailing. I’m currently work on getting the print version out as well, and so far that also seemed intimidating before but doesn’t seem like it’s going to be as bad as people make it sound. (Message for indies: don’t let anyone convince you that you can’t do this stuff until you give it a try.)

Are you working on any other projects we should watch out for?
Like I said, I’m working on getting the print version of Hush Money out through CreateSpace. I’ve just sent the details to Robin for the full version of the cover, and I need to do some additional proof-reading for the formatting changes I made. I hope that will be available through Amazon in a few weeks.

I’m working on the next book in the series. Heroes ’Til Curfew picks up about a month after the end of Hush Money. It’s a book of more: more action sequences, more romance, more new characters and supernatural powers. More work for me, but I love it. Joss will continue to weigh the issue of personal safety vs. the greater good. She’ll find herself under some pressure to become both a crime-fighter and a leader. Dylan will have to deal with his protective feelings for Joss without holding her back, and that’s not going to be easy. […on today’s Oprah: Dylan Maxwell, author of Kick-ass Super Chicks and the Guys Who Love Them]

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book or publishing experience?
The only real thing is that I wouldn’t have waited so long. Everything about this, from the moment I started page one, has just been so positive. So for something to gripe about, I have to feel like I wasted a lot of time being scared and dithering.

But, you know, it is what it is. Two years ago, I didn’t know some of things I do now, and Hush Money would have been less if I had done it then. But then, if I’d been putting stuff out there for the last two years, imagine what I’d be writing now??

Is that circular logic? That’s just evil. Moving on…

What do you do when you are not writing?
I just got the first three discs of the last season of Lost in the mail today, so we know what it is this week. Other than that, I’m really girly. I knit, and do all kinds of other needlework stuff. I collect dolls, sew for them, and sometimes they have stories. Do not tell Joss.

Tell the readers what to expect from Hush Money.
What I wanted to give you in Hush Money was a well-paced read that pulls you into Joss’s world, into her life. I think you’ll root for her as she finds her way through the complications of the story, because I think a lot of people can identify with things she goes through. I think you’ll be charmed by Dylan as his interest in Joss and her problems helps him grow as a person. I think you’ll hate Marco. You should. He’s a dick. I think you’ll do some laughing, roll your eyes a few times, possibly growl, and say, “Yep, been there, done that too…only, you know, without the superpower thing.”

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
As a practical consideration, I’d like to remind the readers that indie authors have virtually no promotional budget. We aren’t even on the bookstore shelf to catch your eye. Word of mouth is all we have. If you enjoyed an indie book, the best thing you can do for the author is to tell people. Every review on Amazon is a huge boon to an indie. Any tweet that you can spare helps us. They say it takes at least five mentions for someone to try a new product. From us, it’s spam, but from you, it’s a recommendation. You’re the ones selling the books now, and you get to decide who sinks and who swims.

But most of all, and most sincerely, thank you. Without you, there’s just no point, and I’d just be sitting around playing with my Talent World Brain-Doll Action Playset in my head. And it’s not half as fun playing alone.

True Blood Recap, Season 3, Episode 10: "I Smell A Rat"

Is it me or is this season the best ever of True Blood? Every week I'm left counting down the days until the next episode! We finally find out what Sookie is, we finally see a were panther, and I finally see a voluntary kiss from Sookie to Eric! Well, let's get into the recap!

Lafayette, Jesus f/Crystal

Lafayette, Jesus and Crystal rush her daddy off to the hospital. Realizing that he will die long before they get there, Lafayette detours to his house and give him some V. Abra Cadabra, her daddy is back and he is not grateful. He storms out of the house and Crystal runs after him. He is pissed that she let them give him V and is even more upset that she doesn't want to go back home and marry the dumb hillbilly he assigned her. She says she is staying with Jason, and he tells her to leave and go to the human, but he wont want her when he finds out the truth. Back at Lafayette's, Jesus is examining the bottle of V and wants to try it with Lafayette. He says they are both spiritual beings and it will heighten their senses. Lafayette eventually gives in and we are taken on a ride of crazy images consisting of old ancestors from both their families. They all happen to be magic wielders of some kind. When they get off their trip after seeing a scary image of Jesus's granddad, Lafayette looks freaked out, while Jesus thinks its awesome. Do I smell an addiction coming on?

Sam lost his temper on the last episode and he hasn't been the same since. The sudden burst of anger has conjured up some unhappy memories of his time as a thief and a girl that he supposedly loved, and who betrayed him. He has become best friends with his bottle of liquor and we see that he is thinking of 2003 and coming home with jewels. A blonde girl is waiting for him and they are about to get hot and heavy when, as usual, a guy puts a gun to Sam's head and takes the bag of jewels. What's worse is that it was his girl who set him up! Will Sam ever catch a break! We later see Sam back at the bar. Everyone is scared of him so he tells all that Calvin is not dead and that all is back to normal. Tommy thinks he shouldn't have mentioned that Calvin isn't dead to the others since he thinks fear is respect, Sam calls him an idiot and keeps it moving. He leaves and goes straight to his two best friends for comfort: liquor and the woods. His memories return with Sam remembering when he found the guy and his girl camped out after they stole from him. He shifts from a dog back into a person, takes the guys own gun and demands his stuff back. He keeps the gun pointed at the guy while lady love gathers the belongings in the truck. She is taking too long, and the guy begins to agitate Sam on purpose. The girl takes out a gun on him, he shots the guy and accidentally shots the girl as well. He is saddened by her death so he puts a few more holes in the guy, since he was unfortunate enough not to die right away. Sam was a little bad ass, but still fell in love with women that just didn't want him. Some men never learn.

Arlene is tired of lying so she finally tells Terry the truth. She follows him to the back of Merlotte's and tells him that it's Renee's baby, it's going to be evil, and she doesn't want it. The most surprising and sweetest thing happens, he tells her he wants the baby, he loves her, wants to marry her, and they are going to surround the baby with so much love that she has nothing to worry about. Is she not the luckiest girl in the world?! Too bad for Terry that when she said she didn't want the baby, she meant it. She goes to Holly to inquire about the alternative ways to "lose" the baby. Holly already admitted to Sam earlier that she is a Wiccan, so we know magic is afoot here!

Jessica is in a weird place right now, and she is not in the mood for Arlene's bs. After hearing Arlene talk crap about vampires, she zooms to Arlene and puts her up against the wall to tell her to quit it. She doesn't like her, but she is not going around talking crap about her, so she wants the same respect. Arlene runs away from the evil one as fast as she could. Jessica starts to feel bad about scaring Arlene, but Tommy is there to back her up. He thinks it was hot and you can tell that he definitely wants things to heat up between them. When she tells him Hoyt is too good for her, he says: "I'm not." Unfortunately for him, Jessica is not ready for all that. Later, we see Jessica waking up to a burning cross and graffiti on the house. Bill stops her from going after the intruders. When she goes back to work, Hoyt decides that he doesn't want to spend another day without Jessica. He tells her he loves her and wants to make it work. When she shakes her head, he tells her to tell him that she doesn't love him. If he can do that, then he will leave her alone. She can't, since she loves him to pieces. He leaves, but Tommy taunts him on the way out. Hoyt had enough of Tommy and shoves him out of his way. Tommy gets pissed and chases him, shifting in the process. Tommy dog attacks Hoyt! Jessica hears the commotion and runs to Hoyt's rescue. She throws the "dog" off of Hoyt and cuts herself since Hoyt is injured. She tells him that she loves him, and to drink her blood. How romantic?!

Tara and Jason

Tara and Jason take off after killing Franklin, not before Tara spits on Franklin's gooey remains and splits the goo in half: half in the truck, half dug up in a whole. They get to Jason's house only to find Bill and Sookie there. Tara stays away from Bill, while Jason goes to talk to him. Tara then tells Sookie that she doesn't care if Bill is her man or not. She doesn't trust him or like him. She then tells Sookie all the things Franklin did to her, and reminds Sook that Bill did nothing to stop it! So true, that was mean of Bill! Meanwhile, Jason is getting lectured by Bill on how he has to protect Sookie, just a usual day in the neighborhood. Bill takes off , leaving security up to Jason. When Jason walks in, he tells Sookie that he killed Eggs. She thinks he should tell the truth, but he is not sure if that is a good idea being that she has been through so much. He goes in to check on Tara and she can't thank him enough for helping her. She tells him that he is one of the few people she can trust and then she kisses him. She breaks it up and gets up mortified. That's when Jason blurts out that he killed Eggs. She runs out of the house and he gets up to go after her. That's when he realizes that Sookie has left. She leaves a note for him not to worry - yeah right. Bill shows up that night completely pissed that Jason let Sookie go. He reminds Bill that when Sookie wants to do something, she does it. He keeps going on and on, so Jason revokes Bill's invitation and kicks him the hell out of his house. That's when he hears crashing in the room. He runs over and there is a panther sitting on the floor. The panther changes into Crystal, and her secret is revealed!

Russell has completely lost his marbles, especially after Talbot as killed. His way of coping with his lover's death is quite unique. He finds a prostitute that looks like his dead lover, he has sex with him, then he stakes him so that he can feel like he was there with Talbot in the end, and he can say a proper goodbye. Hey, it just might work. Maybe therapists everywhere will start recommending that people do this to heal and tie up loose ends..lol

Bill know what Sookie is and he runs to tell her. She starts to question is love for her and he tells her since her blood is like an aphrodisiac for vamps, but he tells her that he loves her for her, and that he'll stop drinking her blood to prove it. Later, Eric shows up at Jason's while Sookie is sleeping. He tells Bill that he knows what Sookie is and what her blood can do. Bill lets him know that Sookie is his and he will protect her. Sookie wakes up, get in the middle of it and Eric takes off. When Jason gets home, Bill tells Jason that he has to protect Sookie and Jason agrees. He takes off and later awakens to a a burning cross, graffiti on his house, and Jessica really pissed off. After calming Jessica down, he goes to Jason's to check on Sookie. Too bad that Sookie is not there. He starts yelling at Jason, so Jason kinks him out. He starts to wonder where Sookie is when you can see that he can sense Sookie's fear. He takes off to rescue her.

Eric knows that he may not make it out of this whole Russell thing alive, so he is making a will. He is leaving everything to Pam, and she is not happy because she feel that this act is him giving up. The lawyer needs a witness to finalize the docs, so he call Yvetta. She signs then get pissed off since Eric is leaving everything to Pam. She yells that he promised to take care of her and he tells her all he promised was "a job and good sex." Eric, that is why I love you!! She storms off and the documents are final. He later turns up at Jason's door. He tells Bill that he knows what Sookie is, that her blood can protect vamps from sunlight, and wants to know how it worked with Bill. Bill tells Eric that a vamp will still burn since her blood only lasts a little while. He says Sophie Anne wanted her for that reason. He also tells Bill that Bill should tell Sookie the truth: hmmm, I smell a rat! Sookie comes out and pretty much tells Eric that she knows why he wants her and it's never going to happen. He hints to them that he won't be around much longer and he will no longer be a problem. He then wishes her the best and leaves. She returns to Jason's and falls asleep. Later, we see Eric get a visit from Sookie. Pam gets mad at Eric since he doesn't want to use Sookie to get Russell. She wants to save him and when he gets upset with her for her sentimentality, she reminds him that he would have done anything to save Godric. Find out what happens below!

Sookie is a fairy. Finally, she knows and she is super disappointed. Once Bill tells her that fairy blood is intoxicating to vampires, she wonders if Bill really loves her. He tell her that he loves her, not because of her blood, but because of who she is. She take a nap and awakens to Eric and Bill going at it outside. She tells Eric off and he impies that he won't be around much longer and he wishes her the best. This leave her wondering what he meant. Tara and Jason walk in later and she learns what happened to Tara and why her bff will ever be friends with Bill again. Can you blame her? Later, she falls asleep and dreams of Eric. They get hot and heavy when she tells Eric that she knows she's dreaming. He tells her then she should enjoy it, then warns her not to trust Bill. He says its not him talking, but her instincts. She wakes up and sneaks out of the house while Jason talked to Tara. She goes to Fangtasia to speak with Eric. She wants to know why she can;t trust Bill. They get some kissing out of the way since he can't meet his final death without having kissed her. She kisses him then wants to know what's going on and what he meant by his cryptic message that implied who wouldn't be around much longer. Pam then interrupts them. Eric leaves Sookie waiting  for a long while. When Eric returns he takes Sookie prisoner in the basement and puts a chain around her neck. Eric has screwed her again, and I love it!

Here's my favorite lines and scenes from the show!
Funniest lines:
  • When Sookie finds out she's a fairy, her response is: "“I’m a fairy? How f-ing lame!”
  • Pam interrupts Sookie and Eric because of: “Blah blah vampire emergency blah.” You gotta love her!
  • After giving Pam everything, Yvetta freaks. Eric's response is to reminder her that he only promised the following: "I promised you a job and good sex.” He then calls her a gold digging whore. How sweet is he?!
  • Bill actually makes a funny and I liked it (gasp!). When talking about Russell, he tells Eric: “You should know, you’re his butt boy.”
  • Jessica  is sick of hearing Arlene talk crap about vampires, so she tells her: “We get it! You don’t like vampires. Well I don’t like narrow minded skinny bitches with bad dye jobs!’
  • Jessica feels bad after telling Arlene off, but Tommy loves it. He tells her: “Oh, ya kiddin, you gave me total wood!”
Sweetest Moment
This goes to Terry, who sticks by Arlene after finding out she is prego with another man's baby

WTF Scene
I give this to Eric. He was unusually sweet throughout the whole episode right until the end where he takes Sookie prisoner and chains her in the basement. WTF! I thought you were going to keep me with you..lol. A girl can dream :-)

What did you think of the episode? Any thoughts on what you think will happen with the many story lines on TB? I can tell you what I think. I think Sookie's fairy blood is going to help Eric beat Russell. Maybe he can use it to go out in the day and kill Russell while he sleeps. Hmmm, maybe that's too easy. What do you think?

Mead Mania: Succubus Shadows Review

Succubus Shadows (Georgina Kincaid, Book 5)

Title: Succubus Shadows
Series: Georgina Kincaid, Book 5
Author: Richelle Mead

Official Summary
Georgina Kincaid has formidable powers. Immortality, seduction, shape-shifting into any human form she desires, walking in heels that would cripple mere mortals—all child’s play to a succubus like her.

Helping to plan her ex-boyfriend’s wedding is a different story. Georgina isn’t sure which is worse—that Seth is marrying another woman, or that Georgina has to run all over Seattle trying on bridesmaid dresses. Still, there are distractions. Georgina’s roommate, Roman, is cluttering her apartment with sexual tension. Then there’s Simone, the new succubus in town, who’s intent on corrupting Seth.
But the real danger lies in the mysterious force that’s visiting her thoughts, trying to draw her into a dark, otherworldly realm. Sooner or later, Georgina knows she’ll be too weak to resist. And when that happens, she’ll discover who she can trust, who she can’t—and that Hell is far from the worst place to spend eternity…
My Review
Our favorite soul-sucking, yet lovable succubus is back in Succubus Shadows. Georgina can't seem to catch a break. You would think she has reached the ultimate low after nearly dying, having to save her friends, and losing her man to her friend, but you thought wrong. Georgina has found herself planning and being the maid of honor to her ex's (and still love of her life) Seth's wedding. Add the new succubus in town that is determined to steal Seth's soul, the fact that she has to live with her ex Roman, and dark forces that are invading her mind and trying to pull her into another world, and youl have the best page-turning, jaw-dropping, thrilling, and sexual-tension packed book of the series. Pick up this book and you will not be disappointed! Plus, the cliffhanger will have you screaming for more. I am still screaming! Too bad we have to wait until 2011 for the next installment.
Can't wait for the more Georgina Kincaid? Make sure to add this to your TBR pile:
  • Succubus Revealed
What did you think of the series? Who do you prefer: Seth or Roman? What do you think is going to happen? Let's hear it :-)

Wait, I'm not done. That's all I have about season 3, but I have some spoilers for season 4. That's right! This season is still going strong, and season 4 spoilers are already coming to light. What do we have to look forward to? Let me tell you!

Season 4 Spoilers
Alan Ball is throwing season 4 to the witches! Yay, witches are so bad, and I love them. One witch in particular is coming to town and her character's name is Hallow. If you read the books, then you are dong your happy dance because this means the witch war is on. The fourth book is the fan favorite of Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse novel entitled Dead to the World (Book 4) [Southern Vampire #4] , and Alan Ball is taking note. Mr. Ball describes Hallow as “actually a medium. She communicates with the dead, and she’s interested in developing further powers.” She is describes as a tall, trim brunette. I'll dye my hair, wear high shoes, and go to the gym - Please cast me as Hallow!! Hallow is not the only witch coming to town. As I said before, there is going to be a witch war that is going to seriously impact the relationship between Sookie and Eric. I can't wait! The new  character, Holly, that was introduced this season is also set to star in season 4. In the books Hollow was a witch. As for the tested and true characters of True Blood, many are going to show new powers that they possess, some our fave characters didn't even know they possess. Wow, Is it June 2011 yet?

What are you most looking forward to in future episodes of True Blood? Should Sookie walk away from vampire relationships?

True Blood Takes Cover!

True Blood is bloody amazing on the cover of the Rolling Stones, and I do mean that literally. According to the Rolling Stones website, one of the key topics of discussion is hot combo of sex and vampire. Run out and get your copy now! Check out the excerpt given from the Rolling Stones article:

The following is an excerpt of an article from the September 2, 2010 issue of Rolling Stone. This issue is available tomorrow on newsstands, and Friday, August 20th online via Rolling Stone's premium subscription plan.

The idea of celibate vampires is ridiculous, True Blood creator Alan Ball says. "To me, vampires are sex," he says. "I don't get a vampire story about abstinence. I'm 53. I don't care about high school students. I find them irritating and uninformed." On his show, every available orifice is used for intercourse: gay, straight, between humans and supernatural beings, and supernatural being on supernatural being, whether he be werewolf, dog or an enormous Minotaur-looking being called a maenad. None of the sex is quite as good as vampire sex, though, which can happen at the astonishing rhythm of 120 bpm while simultaneously devouring one's neck and making your eyes roll back into your head. Says Stephen Moyer — who plays Bill Compton, the undead Southern Civil War Veteran — "If we go from a base level, vampires create a hole in the neck where there wasn't one before. It's a de-virginization — breaking the hymen, creating blood and then drinking the virginal blood. And there's something sharp, the fang, which is probing and penetrating and moving into it. So that's pretty sexy. I think that makes vampires attractive." He laughs a little. "Plus, Robert Pattinson is just hot, right?"
Who else thinks this is one of the hottest pics ever?! Are you going to run out and buy a copy (like I'm getting ready to do!)? Let's hear your thoughts!

Mead Mania: Succubus Heat Review

Succubus Heat (Georgina Kincaid, Book 4)

Title: Succubus Heat
Series: Georgina Kincaid Series, book 4
Author: Richelle Mead

Official Summary
Georgina Kincaid has been a bad, bad succubus...

…which should be a good thing. But lately, thanks to her foul mood over breaking up with bestselling writer Seth Mortensen, she’s been so wicked that Seattle’s über-demon Jerome, decides to “outsource” Georgina to a rival—and have her spy for him in the process.

Being exiled to the frozen north—okay, Vancouver—and leaving Seth in the cozy clutches of his new girlfriend is unpleasant enough. Then Jerome is kidnapped, and all immortals under his control mysteriously lose their powers. One bright spot: with her life-sucking ability gone, there’s nothing to keep Georgina from getting down and dirty with Seth—nothing apart from his girlfriend that is. Now, as the supernatural population starts turning on itself, a newly mortal Georgina must rescue her boss and figure out who’s been playing them—or all hell will break loose…

My Review
I mentioned before that every book of this series from book three onwards is fantastic, and this book takes the cake! Georgina Kincaid is back, and she in not a happy succubus. The hell-serving, soul sucking succubus is depressed after her break up with Seth, and having to see her ex in a happy relationship with her own friend is even worse. Even her relationship with Dante, the black magic man, doesn't help. She is such a mood killer that her demon boss Jerome sends her away on assignment to Canada to work for one of his rivals named Cedric. Jerome is a demon from hell, so of course he has ulterior motives - like spying on his potential threat. When she gets there, she meets her temporary new boss and learns that she must put a stop to a bunch of humans causing trouble and drawing unwanted attention by trying to pretend to be servants of hell - how embarrassing to the real hell bound creatures. What seems like an easy task turns into a life changing feat that puts everyone's future in the balance. Add the fact that her boss has gone MIA, a crazy immortal angel could be behind everything, and everyone under Jerome's care has lost there powers, therefore giving Georgina the ability to finally sleep with Seth, and you have an action packed, emotional roller coaster of a read!

This book is rated 5 fangs:

Can't wait for the next installment of the series? You don't have to! Check out the next book of the series:
Succubus Shadows (Georgina Kincaid, Book 5)

What did you think of this series? What did you think of the cliff hanger ending?! Let me know your thoughts!

True Blood Recap, Season 3, Episode 7: 'Hitting The Ground'

True Blood hit the ground running with episode 7: "Hitting the Ground." It picked up right where we left off: with us wondering why True Blood can't be a 5 day a week show, and Sookie screaming as Lorena sinks her fangs into her neck. Let's take a look at what happens!

We last saw Sam running to track down his demented parents who have his little bro Tommy competing in dog fights. He tries to play knight in shining pickup truck, but there is a redneck with a gun that won't let him pass the road that leads to the dog fight. Sam pretends like someone told him about the dog fights, and that he is a gambler with money. Too bad the guy is not dumb, asks him if he's a cop, then wants to see Sam's gun. Did I mention that this is all going down while the guy is holding Sam at gun point? That seems to happen to him alot lately. Well, Sam shows the guy his gun (that sounds funny), and the guy takes his gun and tells Sam to take off or get shot. Sam leaves, but parks up once out of eyesight and changes into his bro's favorite pitbull form. He strolls over to the dog fighting pen where a handler puts him into a cage, after telling him that he will be on his back at the end of the fight. When the guy leaves, Sam switches back to human form, lets the trapped doggies out, while pulling the alarm to stop his bro from  fighting. He runs to the fighting rink and finds his bro shifted and a little scratched up. The dog Tommy was fighting acts dominant and after a stare down with Sam, he runs off with his tail between his legs. Sam then turns to his parents, who he says is worse than Tara's mama, and tells them off. He screams at them for taking advantage of Tommy and tells Tommy to go home with him. Tommy hesitates, but decides to go with Sam, who promises that he is better than his parents. I agree with that! Too bad I don't think that it's the last time we are going to see the Mickens.

Jason is depressed after finding out that Crystal is engaged and he doesn't know what to do. He can't stop thinking about her. For example: Jason wants to know why she is named Crystal. Hoyt think that her middle name is Meth since she is from drug dealing Hot Shots. Did Hoyt just make a funny?! After being scolded by Jason for that little comment, Hoyt redeems himself by coming up with a great plan to get more info on Crystal. He tells Jason to go question the drug dealer from Hot Shots that Jason got arrested. Jason loves the idea and gets to questioning. Once Jason get to the police station, he sneaks straight to Mr. Drug Dealer. He lets Jason know that Crystal is his cousin, but he'll only give Jason info if he gets him some Meth. Jason decides to go to the only person who can help him get the prisoner talking...Lafayette. He asks Lafayette to give him some meth, but Lafayette remembers the last time he helped Jason get drugs - remember Jason's boner that could? Jason tells him that it is for a guy in prison, and that he is in love. Lafayette's response: "With the dude in jail?" You wish! He tells him that it is with the guy's cousin. Before Lafayette could respond, Jason gets a phone call from Tara. Sookie is in the hospital and he needs to get there asap. When he gets there, the doctors want him to make a whole bunch of decisions regarding Sookie, but he tells them he is not responsible. Too bad he is the next of kin and has no choice but to take the responsibility. Lafayette bails him out and buys him some extra time by telling the docs to get lost. He begs Sookie to make it since she is all he has. They pray and hope for the best when Bill shows up. (See Bills section to find out what happens)

Hoyt went on a date with Sunny last week, and she sure liked him. After Hoyt is done talking with Jason, Sunny knocks on the door carrying a present for Hoyt. She waits at the door asking to be invited in, then laughs and says she's not a vamp like his last girlfriend - you aren't as interesting as she is either! She looks around and tells him the place needs sprucing, while telling him that she was waiting for him to call her after their date. He apologizes and she tells him that she wanted to come over to declare her feelings and not play games. She wants to be Hoyt's girlfriend and she wants him to taste her biscuits (so funny). Jason passes by and tells Hoyt that Sunny is a keeper after taking a bite of her famous biscuits. She has his vote, I hope she doesn't have Hoyt's.

When we last saw Eric, he renounced his loyalty to the Queen and joined team Russell. The Queen is now caged and he drags her favorite human Hadley to get answers from her. He asks her why she is so interested in Sookie - Mystery #1. When the Queen refuses to answer, Eric bites Hadley. The Queens keeps mum so Hadley decides to save herself by spilling the truth about the Queens intentions with Sookie. She tells Eric that she is Sookie's cousin then proceeds to whisper what Sookie really is. Speak up Hadley! We want to know too!! She doesn't listen and Eric is the only one enlightened to the truth about Ms. Stackhouse. Eric gives Hadley his blood since she cooperated. We later see Eric with the Queen and Russell going to confront the Magister. Read below to see what happens with this little encounter.

Pam, Magister, and her saviors (Eric, Queen, and Russell)

We finally see the return of Pam! We missed you! Too bad that she has been in the Majister's clutches this whole time. He decided he wants to give Pam a gift for being such a good sport. He takes out a Tiffany's box (yay), then we remember that Tiffany's is known for it's silver jewelry (boo). In the little blue Tiffany's box is a pair of (very cute) silver earring. Her response: "Great, they’ll go with my chains." This is why we love you Pam! You are sarcastic and fearless! The Majister wants to see what it'll look like in her eyelids , but he doesn't get a chance because Eric shows up and he has backup. He tells the Majister that he was right about the selling of V, but that the Queen put him up to it. She admits it, but the Majister says that Eric is still in the wrong for treason. Eric lets him know that he now works for King Russell, and not the Queen so the rule doesn't apply. The King walks in and puts the Majister in his place. He pretty much tells the Magister to eff off and to perform the ceremony making the Queen and him husband and wife. After a little torture, the Majister agrees to follow Russell and grants his wishes of marriage. Too bad he didn't keep his mouth shut, cause after the Majister gives him some back talk, Russell takes the Majister's head clean off (literally). yay, we got rid of one crazy vamp to have another power  hungry crazy vamp take his place!

Tara / Alcide

Tara bumped into Alcide while fleeing Russell's mansion. They get into the his truck and they head for the shack that Sookie is in. They find Sookie splattered in guts with Bill in her arms (see below for details). Tara and Alcide wants to get going, but Sookie is not leaving Bill there. They are wrapping Bill up in a rug when Debbie walks in with a gun. She likes the look of the vamp burrito, and the chance to get back at Sookie and Alcide. She gets into a few words with Sook when Alcide distracts her. She yells at him, and says that they broke up cause he refused to make a baby with her since it would turn out to be a were. They go back and forth with the who, what, why and how's of their relationship when Tara comes up with a plan. She is going to tackle Debbie cause there is no way she is dying there after all they've been through. After "telling" Sookie  this, she tells Sook to distract Debbie, so Sookie screams. Debbie is distracted and Tara tackles her. Alcide takes the gun and in walks Cooter. He goes to attack Alcide and Alcide shoots him in the head,. He apologizes to Debbie, but keeps it moving. He keeps the gun on her while they all leave the shed, and he locks her inside kicking and screaming. She vows to get him, and he knows she is telling the truth. Tara and Alcide get into the front of the truck, while Sookie stays with Bill in the back. They take off and Alcide runs over a wolf who is chasing them while getting away. On their way home, Alcide stops to take a leak and Tara decides to check on Sookie. When she bangs on the back door Sookie doesn't answer, so Alcide and Tara open the back of the truck even though it will risk Bill getting burned by the sun. When they lift the back door they are horrified to see Sookie all bloody and unmoving with her blood all over Bill's mouth. Tara kicks Bill out of the truck and rushes Sookie to the hospital where they tell Tara and Alcide that they don't think she is going to make it. Tara calls Jason to tell him the sad news and they all take their place at Sookie's bedside.

Bill sees that Sookie is in Lorena's clutches and he goes to  help. He works his way to Lorena and throws the silver chains around her, while pulling her to the floor with him. He then tells Sookie to stake her and the girl does not hesitate. Lorena's guts redecorates the shack! After this crazy killing, Bill goes unconscious. He seems to be out of it and doesn't come out of his trance until Tara opens the back door of the truck he is suddenly in. Bill doesn't know what happened (check below to see what really went down!), and only knows that he is above a bloody Sookie with her blood all over his mouth. Tara doesn't want to hear his excuses and literally kicks him out of the truck and into the sun. They take off with Sookie in the truck and leave him in the middle of the road on a very Sunday morning. Anybody see something wrong with a vamp out in the daylight?! Ding, Ding: Mystery #2. This is  not Twilight or Vampire Diaries, so this is not supposed to happen. Bill looks at his skin in shock that he is not burned to a crisp. He takes off and we see him later at the hospital. He wants to help Sookie, but Tara wants him no where near her. In the end, Jason decides to let him help her. Bill gives Sookie his blood and it works. She wakes up.

Sookie is being attacked by Lorena when Bill takes her down and Sookie stakes her. Bill goes unconscious and Alcide helps to contain Debbie while Tara helps Sookie take the Bill burrito to the truck. She jumps in the back with Bill and they take off. She tries to get Bill up, but he is down for the count. Drastic times calls for drastic measures, so she cuts herself and gets Bill to drink. She is happy he is up and drinking until he loses control and feeds from her full fledge! Tara and Alcide find her after their pit stop, but she is unconscious. They kick Bill out of the truck and rush her to the hospital. The doctors try giving her a transfusion, but she has a bad reaction. They discover that she does not have a blood type! Mystery numero 3! They tell Tara that she needs to call the family since Sookie is probably not going to make it. During this whole ordeal, Sookie is in a different state of mind - is it a dream? She is in a pretty dress, surrounded by happy people enjoying themselves near the water. Sookie is carrying her empty cup while examining them when Claudine walks up to her. People who have read the books are now doing a happy dance at the intro to this character! She tells Sookie that they need to fill her cup. They do and Sookie drinks it. They dance and have fun. Claudine informs Sookie that she has been to this place before. She also lets it slip that Sookie's parents did not die in a car accident (mystery #4). They are getting things out in the open when a black cloud descends over there pretty dream place. They start screaming that it's a vampire and everyone disappears into the water. Claudine wants Sookie to join her, but Sookie refuses. Claudine warns Sookie not to let the vamps steal her light and disappears into the water with the other. Sookie cries out for Claudine to help her get back home when she wakes up in the hospital. She sees Bill and screams!

What did you think of this episode? What is Eric really up to? What do you think will happen to Bill and Sookie? Let us hear your thoughts!
