Paromantasy is shining the spotlight on paranormal romance author Toni LoTempio. Her new novel, NO REST FOR THE WICCA, is a non-stop action packed ride filled with murder, mystery, romance, intrigue and a bad ass heroine that you are going to love! Add in her snarky and insanely gorgeous vampire partner and you've got yourself an instant page-turner! Morgan Hawkes is a half Wiccan paranormal investigator who banishes unwanted ghosts. She likes her job, she's good at it and it's less complicated then her former role as detective. But when a string of witch murders arises, Morgan is needed to join a Special forces unit. These murders involve voodoo, and Morgan's father was a practitioner of the dark arts. Forced to team up with super hot, but equally saucy vamp Agent Cole; the two set out on a mission that changes their future, and brings up a past that refuses to stay buried.
I have said this only once before, so this is really big for me. We have found another gem! Toni's writing takes you on a journey that completely makes you forget the reality around you, and engrosses you in her novel until the very end. She has now joined my list of favorite PNR authors, and is in the company of Richelle Mead, Patricia Briggs, JR Ward, and fellow indie author HP Mallory. We have another great author that I am certain will soon become a well known name in the PNR / UF literary world.
Toni LoTempio novel has far exceeded many of the traditionally published works that I have read. Run and pick up this book today! Better yet, enter our giveaway! Toni is giving away three copies of her book! See below for details on how you can win a copy of this five fang book!
Let's give a warm welcome to one of my newly favorite authors Toni LoTempio!
Tell us about yourself.
I was born in New York City, quite a few years ago :-) In 1995 I joined the staff of a pulp magazine, SUSABELLA PASSENGERS AND FRIENDS, as a feature reporter, winning their Margaret Sutton Award for Distinguished Reporting in 1998. I’ve written over 200 articles for this magazine in the space of 10 years. Susabella is devoted to series book literature, Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, et al. And, as a big series collector, this was right up my alley. I started writing novels in 1996 and in November, 2004 A SPY IN THE HAND debuted to excellent reviews, followed by BOUND BY BLOOD, EBONY, NOM DE PLUME, WITCH’S PAWN, IT’S IN THE CARDS, OUT OF THE ASHES and this year my first indie, NO REST FOR THE WICCA. More to come!
I live in New Jersey with my four furry roommates: a tuxedo named Rocco, a gold tabby named Maxx, a gray and white lady named LJ and a gray 13 year told tabby named Trixie. They are my inspiration!
When did you know that you wanted to be a writer?
When I was about four years old – my mother used to read me bedtime stories and if I didn’t like the way they ended, I rewrote them!
How did the whole idea for No Rest For The Wicca come about?
I’ve always been fascinated by witchcraft – my favorite horror movie growing up was BLACK SUNDAY with the incredible Barbara Steele, and I’ve always loved vampires. I was obsessed with DARK SHADOWS as a teen. I even went to the studio and met Jonathan Frid! Voodoo has always fascinated me as well – so I just decided to put it all together. Plus, I was just coming off a rejection for one of my other novels from NAL – New American Library – so I took my frustration out in WICCA.
Which is cooler: A Half Voodoo/ Half Wicca background like Morgan or Half Inheritor Vampire/Half Wicca like Cole?
OOH, that’s a toughie. I think the Half Voodoo/Half Wicca. There are a lot of cool things about voodoo, once you get into it. The dark end of it is fascinating.
Are your characters based on people you know?
Some of ‘em – and they know who they are, too :-) My friends and co-workers never know when they’ll turn up in something I’ve written.
Who are some of your favorite authors and why?
I love Stephen King – his early books. And John Saul. I credit both of them with getting me into the horror genre. And no one can top James Patterson for suspense, in my book. I also love Alex Kava, and Tess Gerritson is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I’d kill – literally kill – to write like her. (hey, do I smell a future book there???)
What books are you reading now?
I just finished THE MEPHISTO CLUB by Tess Gerritson and have just started THE KEEPSAKE, also by Tess Gerritson. Again, I would kill to write like this woman. She is phenomenal!
Was writing and publishing your book exactly how you imagined?
Hmm…Is anything in life ever as you imagine it will be?
Are you working on any other projects we should watch out for?
I’m currently working on a paranormal romance I hope to shop to some agents. On the indie side, I have a few other paranormals and some YA’s I hope to put out in the coming year. ONYX 2097, about a rock singer who’s turned into a superheroine; RAVEN’S KISS, about a Shapeshifter, are two. I also have the outline written for the sequel to NO REST FOR THE WICCA, so I’m going to do that. Also I have another vampire series I’m working on that has to undergo another rewrite.
If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book or publishing experience?
As a writer, there are always things you want to change, to make better. But at some point you just have to let go, let it fly and hope for the best.
What was the hardest part of writing and/or publishing your book?
Uploading the damn thing! I’m not techno-computer savvy!
There was tons of information about Wicca and Voodoo in the book. Did you do much research for your book?
Absolutely. I did extensive research on voodoo and wicca. Barnes and Noble loved me! I used some of the notes I had from EBONY, another book that deals with voodoo.
What do you do when you are not writing?
As you can tell from my “to do list” there’s very little time when I’m NOT writing – but when I’m not, I like to read and watch DANCING WITH THE STARS. If I weren’t a writer, I’d have been a dancer. I studied ballet for 7 years.
Random Question: Would you rather be a Wicca, a Were, or a Vamp?
Wicca! Definitely! Everyone knows supernaturals are all susceptible to magic!
Tell the readers what to expect when reading one of your books.
They should expect the unexpected. I always try to have a twist you don’t see coming, except in the romances. That’s why I don’t’ write too many straight romances.
Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
A big thanks for reading WICCA, and I hope you’ll visit Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Whiskey Creek Press and Echelon and try another of my novels.:-) More indies to come, I promise!
You can catch up with me on my website, and I also do a blog at Fallout Entertainment
