Title: Vampire Academy
Series: Vampire Academy, Book 1
Author: Richelle Mead
Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with an unbreakable bond to the earth's magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest and most dangerous vampires--the ones who never die.
The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa's best friend, makes her a Dhampir; she is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making her one of them.
After two years of illicit freedom, Rose and Lissa are caught and dragged back to St. Vladimir's Academy, hidden in the deep forests of Montana. Rose will continue her Dhampir education. Lissa will go back to being Queen of the elite Moroi social scene. And both girls will resume breaking hearts.
Fear made Lissa and Rose run away from St. Vladimir's--but their world is fraught with danger both inside and out of the Academy's iron gates. Here, the cutthroat ranks of the Moroi perform unspeakable rituals and their secretive nature and love of the night creates an enigmatic world full of social complexities. Rose and Lissa must navigate through this dangerous world, confront the temptation of forbidden romance, and never once let their guard down, lest the Strigoi make Lissa one of them forever...
Vampire Academy is the book that completely changed me into a true die hard PNR and UF fan. Why? Because Richelle Meade made a book that is both YA and adults can read. A book that has it all! A book that can easily become "Book Crack" - That is my term for a book that becomes completely addictive to the point of re-reading several times. I have never been a re-reader, and I'm still not - but this series is the exception. I can never get tired of it and even after rereading it several times, it still makes my heart race and my eyes sleepy from staying up to read it from beginning to end in one sitting.
Rose is a bad-ass heroine unlike any I have encountered in a YA novel. She is a tough talking, quick punching, and sexy girl that will do and give up anything to protect her bff Lissa. See, she is a Dhamphir, a half vamp/half human, who is training to become a guardian. Guardians protect Moroi who are good vamps from Strigoi who are the bad vamps that kill when drinking blood. The Moroi of most importance to Rose is Lissa. Not only is Lissa her bff and the Moroi she protects - Rose is also bonded to her. She can jump into Lissa;s mind and sense her feelings. Weird but very helpful when it comes to becoming her guardian. Her desire to protect Lissa is why she took her from St. Vlad's, but when the school finds them and drags them back, Rose faces a different type of danger. She is falling for her older guardian trainer Dimitri - the very guy who dragged them back. As if her attraction to her super hot and way older trainer isn't enough, someone is threatening Lissa and it's up to Rose to find out who before it's too late.
I only have two more words to say...READ IT! It will change your life...seriously :-)
