Mockingjay (The final book of The Hunger Games) Book Review

Mockingjay (The Final Book of The Hunger Games) - Library Edition

Title: Mockingjay
Series: The Hunger Games Triology (book 3)
Author: Suzanne Collins

Official Synopsis:
Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has survived the Hunger Games twice. But now that she's made it out of the bloody arena alive, she's still not safe. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge. Who do they think should pay for the unrest? Katniss. And what's worse, President Snow has made it clear that no one else is safe either. Not Katniss's family, not her friends, not the people of District 12.

My Review
The Hunger Games is one of my favorite YA series. It's complex, deep, and filled with action, suspense, and mystery. This book continues with that theme. It makes you laugh, cry and scream simultaneously. Katniss can't catch a break, especially when the man she loves (but doesn't want to admit it) is held hostage by her nemesis, President Snow. To make matters worse, all of the people she thought she knew are not exactly what they seem. The ones she trusted are changing, the ones she never liked are on her side, and in the end she must count on the one person who was always got her through - herself. I know I'm going to hear a lot of boos, but I'm telling you now that is not a 5 fang rating. It is good and engaging, but it didn't catch and hold my attention from the very beginning like previous books. It started off a little slow, but don't worry, it does catch up, grips you, and doesn't let go until the end. The problem I really have is the way things were left. Without giving away too much, a major character drops from the scene towards the end and is never heard of again. This left me with a bad taste in my mouth. After so much interaction and craziness this character has been through (I must give him/her credit although he/she is not one of my faves), I think there should have been further closure and not just the "I'm leaving cause you are going to be forever pissed at me" ending that was presented. I also felt cold with the way they portrayed Katniss's mom in the end. Sorry to be vague, but I don't want to let the cat out of the bag for all those that didn't read it. I did like the final wrap up with all the other characters. I must admit that this book had me crying like a baby towards the end, and cheering in others. It is definitely an emotional roller coaster of a read, with action packed scenes and suspense that we have come to expect from the series. It is a definite must read, although it does have its flaws.

This book is rated 4 1/2 fangs. I was initially going to give it 4 stars, but the tearjerkers and final wrap up ending pushed the rating up.

The Ghost Hunter Book Review and Giveaway Details

The Ghost Hunter

Title: The Ghost Hunter
Author: Lori Brighton

Official Summary:
When Ashley Hunter inherits the Inn where her father mysteriously vanished years ago, she jumps at the chance to finally uncover the truth about his disappearance. But soon after taking ownership of the decrepit building, Ashley realizes she’s in for far more than she bargained. Not only has she inherited answers to many sought-after questions, she’s also inherited spirits, demons and even fallen angels! Then Cristian arrives, a gorgeous man who insists he merely needs a room to rent. She believes him, until one by one her ghosts start disappearing...

As a fallen angel destined for a life of servitude, Cristian Lucius is relegated to protecting earth from unwanted spirits. But he can’t accomplish this daunting task alone. He requires assistance from the very woman who frustrates him as much as she intrigues him. Cristian is determined to ignore his intense attraction for Ashley, and focus on his mission. If they don’t work together, they won’t have a chance in hell of defeating the demon threatening their lives. The problem is getting Ashley to trust him. No easy task, considering Cristian is the very man responsible for her father’s disappearance.

My Review
Ashley is a person who just wants to be normal and fit in, of course that is hard since she can see and talk to ghosts! In search of the truth, Ashley sets out to the Inn she inherits from her aunt with the intention of finding her father, and finding answers that she has been seeking all her life: why did her dad abandon her, and what is the truth behind her curse? When she gets there, she realizes she is in over her head. Nothing is what it appears to be, the people she trusts may be the ones she should be running from, and the powers she has, may not be the only power she possesses. This book is a  crazy roller coaster of a book, filled with twists and turns from the beginning to the end. You will be on the edge of your seat trying to put the puzzle pieces together to uncover the truth. It has everything you could ever want in an paranormal romance book: suspense, mystery, danger, and some serious sexual tension. Ashley is a complex character that is strong, yet insecure; smart, yet naive; completely lost, but determined to find the truth. She will have you rooting for her all the way. Cristian is hot, sexy, mysterious and the most bad-ass angel you will ever meet. His bad boy persona, mixed with his angel status is unique and just plain sexy. The mystery surrounding them and the sexual tension between Cristian and Ashley will have you racing through the pages to find out what is going to happen next in the crazy saga that is their unconventional relationship. This wouldn't be a sizzling novel if Cristian didn't have a little competition, and in walks Devon. Devon is another angel that comes back from the dead with one thing in mind, protecting Ashley. This book is a  must read. It takes you into a fantasy world that is hidden right in our backyard. A place with hot angels, evil demons, mysterious ghosts, feisty witches, slick werewolves, creepy vampires, and more! There is definitely a little something for everyone. If you love a paranormal romance that is filled with suspense, mystery and sizzling romance, then this is a book for you.

This book is rated 4 fangs:

Photobucket

As she tries to uncover the truth surrounding her past, she in thrown into a world filled with ghost, witches, angels, demons, and powers beyond your wildest dreams! Look out for my review on Monday. Can't wait to read it? View giveaway details at the bottom of the article for a chance to win an e-copy! I was ecstatic when I was invited by Lori to do a Q&A with Paromantasy about her life, her book, and what it means to be a writer.

Let’s give a warm welcome to Lori Brighton!

Tell us about yourself.
I went to college for Anthropology and ended up becoming a Natural Science curator at a museum. A few years later we moved and there was really nowhere for me to work, so I decided to try writing. Although I’d always loved reading romance novels, I started out writing a few nonfiction articles for Wild Bird magazine. A little while later I moved onto fiction.

When did you know that you wanted to be a writer?
Not until I was in my twenties. I’d always had a huge imagination; I loved television and reading. But I hated English class in school and the many rules that came with writing. So I certainly never considered myself a writer. When I was in my teens I fell in love with romance novels. I decided to give it a try and write my own book, mostly to get the many stories I’d imagined out of my head. Once I started, I couldn’t stop!

Where did you get the idea for The Ghost Hunter from?
Ohhh, good question. :-) It was while on the Haunted Mansion ride at Disney World. We go there a lot. It’s one of our favorite places. Since I’d been on the ride quite a few times, my mind was wandering. lol. I imagined a woman inheriting a haunted place, but instead of being terrified of her ghosts, she was more annoyed with them.

Do you have anything in common with Ashley?
Another good question! Hmm, well, she has this fear of living a clichéd life in the suburbs and I do as well. She can also be a bit sarcastic at times and I can as well. Like Ashley, I think we’ve all had the feeling of not belonging at one time or another. And on a more personal level, my father wasn’t in my life much while I was growing up, so we definitely have that in common.

Are your characters based on people you know?
No, not really. There might be little characteristics I will pick up from people and use. I also might use actors as a basis for looks and attitude, but never completely.

Did you do much research for your book?
Not nearly as much as I do with my historicals! Because it takes place in England, I had to research the area. Mostly I had to research the celestial and religious aspects of the book. But yeah, like I mentioned above, it wasn’t nearly as much as I do with my historicals.

Who are some of your favorite authors and why?
My favorite romance author will always be Julie Garwood. I started reading her historicals when I was sixteen and I completely fell in love. There was so much suspense and emotion. The romance was to die for! I’d stay up all night to read her books.

As for a different genre, I love the magic of the Harry Potter books. When I read those books for the first time they make me feel like a kid again, like anything was possible!

When I was young I loved the Anne of Green Gables series, my first foray into romance with Anne and Gilbert. I also loved the magic in The Chronicles of Narnia series.

My favorite classic would have to be Jane Eyre; very romantic, very gothic and mysterious… everything I love!

What books are you reading now?
I’m actually reading some Self published books, both by friends: H.P. Mallory and Edie Ramer. As for printed books, I just finished Victoria Dahl’s Crazy for Love. Was very good! And I’m starting Last Vampire Standing by Nancy Haddock. I went to the Romance Writers of America Conference this year and got bags full of free books. Honestly, it was the best part of the conference. lol. So I have plenty to read, I just need to find the time!

Are you working on any other projects we should watch out for?
My debut book, a historical romance called Wild Heart, was released in November of 2009. The second book in the series is called Wild Desire and will be out in March. I’m actually working on the copy edits for Wild Desire now. It’s a super fun and adventurous book. I’m really excited about it. I also have a young adult book that’s with two editors right now. I’ll let you know if it sells. If not, I’ll definitely self publish it.

What made you go the Self Publishing route?
Quick answer, I was tired of waiting around for editors to decide if they wanted to buy my book, only to then reject it. As for The Ghost Hunter, one editor said they didn’t buy books with ghosts. So that publisher was out. Another editor had the book for a year, yes a year! So while I was waiting months and months for editors to decide if they wanted The Ghost Hunter, some friends of mine started self publishing and making money, decent money. Since The Ghost Hunter was just sitting on my computer, I figured why not try self publishing it?

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book or publishing experience?
No, I don’t think so. I try not to dwell because really you can’t change the past. You know? But I guess if anything, I wish I would have started writing at an earlier age.

What do you do when you are not writing?
I love to travel, usually to the beach. I love wildlife and as I mentioned, was a natural science curator for awhile. As a family, we go hiking a lot on the weekends. I love watching T.V., reading and art (painting, drawing and photography).

Do you have any advice for other writers?
Best piece of advice is to never give up! If you want it bad enough it will happen. Some people are published in their first year. For others it can take twenty years. For me it took about seven. And there were many times I wanted to quit. But if I would have, I wouldn’t be where I am now.

Tell the readers what to expect from The Ghost Hunter.
I think it’s a sexy read with suspense, humor and of course paranormal. Even if you don’t like paranormal, it’s worth getting a copy of the book just so you can have a picture of the cover. The guy on the front is hot! I found him on Istock :-)

Totally random question: If you could be any supernatural being, what would it be?
A being? Hmm, I’m not sure. Maybe someone like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I loved that show! Hasn’t been a show like it.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
First, I just want to say thanks to you, Evie, for letting me take over your blog for the day. Authors are pretty much responsible for their own promoting. They can spend thousands of dollars on ads in magazine and on websites. But what works the best is word of mouth. So please, if you like a book, recommend it to your friends!

With that said, I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who has been so supportive of me, whether they’re helping me promote a printed book from a New York publisher, or a self published book. The people I’ve met online are amazing; wonderful women who take time out of their busy days to help me succeed. You don’t know how much that means to me!

Recap: True Blood Season 3 Finale "Evil Is Going On", and Season 4 scoop

The much anticipated finale of True Blood Season 3 has come and gone, and I must say that I was very disappointed. After an action packed season filled with questions, cliff-hangers, and a serious game of "WTF", I thought that the season finale was going to be the ultimate stand to end the season. An episode of TB that would be like no other, instead I was left disappointed. Hey, it was not all bad but it definitely was not season finale worthy. Let's take a look at what happened on episode 12, and what we can expect from season 4.

Jessica and Hoyt

Jessica and Hoyt are back on, and Hoyt has the fang marks to prove it. He leaves her house to go to work when he is forced into a vampire intervention by his mom, Summer, and his old drunk high school guidance counselor. They begin to read letter that they wrote to Hoyt, which consisted of all the reasons why he should dump Jessica. Hoyt's not having any of it and tells them all that he loves Jessica and he's not leaving her. Later, you see Hoyt surprise Jessica with a house. Seems like these two lovebirds are moving in together. We also see Mrs.Fortenberry buying a gun. If she is planning on using that on Jessica, then I hope she has wooden bullets because Jessica will be very quick to take her down and I must admit that I would love to see that happen!

Jason and Crystal
Jason loves Crystal so he agrees to help stop the raid on Hotshots. Problem is that when he gets to the station the DEA is already there and are planning to raid the town that day. Jason and Crystal run to Hotshots to warn them. Jason gets into an altercation with Calvin, since he pretty much tells him that it does not mean that he likes Jason or accepts him. That whole argument is cut short after Calvin orders the removal and destruction of all their V supplies and Felton (Crystal's ex and newly revealed V addict) puts a stop to it by shooting Calvin dead. He then kidnaps Crystal, while Jason promises to not only take care of the people of Hotshots, but also that he will rescue Crystal. Jason - our hero!

Tara
Tara is spending the morning with Sam after a night between the sheets. He makes her breakfast, while she tells him that she usually never stays because of his barking in his sleep. He reveals that the reason he barks is because he is a shape shifter. She freaks since the last thing she wants is a relationship with a supernatural being. She leaves, but not before he tells her that she can get past all the bad stuff that's happened to her. She just has to start new, and try to never look back at the person she once was, just concentrate on the new Tara. She must take this to heart because after seeking out her mom and finding her with the married pastor, she goes home, chops off her hair, says bye to Sookie, and takes off. I hope she never comes back, but you know that's not happening :-(

Sam
Sam is over his drunken fit and feels bad for all the things he said to Terry. He apologizes to a very happy and very emotional Terry who is happy that Arlene's baby is alive and kicking. Sam goes to apologize to Tommy, but finds his place trashed and Tommy nowhere to be found. When he gets to work he finds that his money is gone and he knows that Tommy took it. He tracks down Tommy who refuses to give him back his money after Sam came into his life, turned it upside down and left him. He turns around sure that Sam would never shoot him. Sam picks up his gun, points it at Tommy and shoots. My bet is that he did not kill Tommy and these two will be close again in no time. What do you think?

Lafayette
Ever since taking that v with Jesus and seeing those visions filled with magic and mayhem, Lafayette begins to hear voices and experience visions which seems to reveal the deepest, darkest secrets of the people closest to him. He sees Sam with blood on his hands, and Renee next to Arlene, telling him that she is pregnant with his child. He starts to freak out and calls Jesus. Jesus meets him and reveals that he is a witch. Lafayette seems very happy to have a witch nurse as a bf. I have a feeling Lafayette has more powers than he is aware of.

Eric

The last time we saw Eric, he was baking in the sun while handcuffed to Russell. As Eric is dying, he sees a vision of Godric who says that everyone experiences peace when they die (evil or not), and Eric must learn to leave the hate and forgive. Eric is stubborn and doesn't want to. He is then rescued by Sookie and dragged into the safety of his bar. After healing (see what Sookie does to help him below), he asks Sookie to bring Russell inside, and explains his vision to Pam, Bill, and Sookie. The vamps goes to sleep while Sookie keeps watch of Russell. When they awaken, Alcide takes him Bill and Russell to a construction site where Eric and Bill push Russell into a hole and proceed to pour concrete on him. After Eric talked to Godric, he realized that he does not want Russell to experience peace, so he'll keep him alive but encased in a cement grave to suffer until he finally withers away.Godric appears to him and begs Eric to forgive and let it go, but Eric ignores him. A very sad Godric disappears into the night. After Russell is encased in cement Eric is taken by surprise by Bill who throws Eric into a pit of his own and buries him in concrete. This is not the last of Eric. See below to find out what happens.

Bill

Bill revives a very pissed off Sookie, who goes to help Eric inside. After dragging Eric in, she tells a now pissed off Bill to bite her so that she can give Eric some of her blood to heal. He obeys and bites her. After Sookie helps Eric, brings in Russell and agrees to go to sleep while she watches Russell, he awakens to find Alcide and Sookie looking very cozy. He eyeballs Alcide, who does the same in return. Sookie storms out, and the boys head off to the construction site. After they bury Russell in cement, Bill pretends to shake Eric's hand, but quickly pushes him into a hole and buries him in cement too. He then makes a call on Eric's phone, pretending to be Eric and orders Pam's death. He then rushes to Sookie's house and confesses that he killed Russell, but also killed Eric. He tells her that they both knew what she was and he will kill anyone that is a threat to Sookie. He then tells her that "I have never loved, not will I ever love, as I have loved you." She is just about to forgive him when Eric shows up covered in cement and delivers some very startling news. See below to find out what it is. Later, the Queen shows up at Bill's house and is eager to get her hands on Sookie only to find out it's a set-up. She reminds Bill that she is twice his age, and Bill let's her know that it doesn't matter since he has nothing left to lose. They do this matrix move in the air, and the fight is on!

Sookie
Sookie is revived by Bill and she is one pissed off little half fairy. She is going off when she realizes Eric is gone and learns that he is burning outside. She rescues him, then orders Bill to bite her so she can give him her blood. After she helps him, she goes out and brings a crispy and silver chain bound Russell into the club and binds him to a pole. She watches him as she tells the vamp to "Go crawl back into your holes, you creepy cold freaks." She is watching Russell who tries to bribe her to releasing him. She refuses and he threatens her. She sprays him with silver that she got from Pam, then finds the mushy Talbot remains that he carries around, takes it to the garbage disposal, and pours it down the drain while she gives Russell an evil laugh. Maybe the evil part of her fairy blood is getting to her. Alcide shows up later and the sexual tension is thick and very welcomed - where has he been? He tells her he agreed to do Eric a favor in exchange for Eric forgiving his dad's debts. He then tells her that he missed her, and has even been dreaming about her. Wow!! The moment is ruined by the wakening of the vamps. She pretty much shows Alcide that she's not with Bill by telling him she is out of there, without him. Alcide seems pleased at this turn of events. She runs into Tara who is sporting a new hairdo and spends some quality time with her. Tara leaves, but Bill is soon at her door. He reveals all he's done that night, but then proclaims his undying love to her. She is about to take him back when Eric shows up covered in cement and very unhappy. He tells Sookie that Bill was sent by the Queen to procure her and that Bill went as far as letting the Rattrays nearly beat her to death so that she would be forced to drink his blood. All this was apart of an agreement between Bill and the Queen. She asks Bill if this is true and he admits that it is. She rescinds both of their invitations and Bill goes flying out of the house. Eric tells her that he is sorry she is suffering, but he wanted her to know the truth. She later rushes to her grandma's grave and tells her that she feels all alone. That's when a Claudine and a bunch of fairies show up. Sookie takes Claudine's hand and they disappear.

Here are my favorite lines
I was laughing when Sookie said these two lines to Russell
“You watch your f**king language."
“Your word is worth about as much as tits on a turtle.”

After awaking to a cozy Sookie and Alcide, Bill stares down the wolf who quickly returns the favor. Eric tells them:“I hope you two have finished eye-f*cking each other. Can we go?” Love it!

We know HotShots is weird, but I couldn't believe when one of the young men tells calvin: "Here you go, uncle-daddy Calvin!" Too funny, and very messed up!

Alan Ball did a post-mortem where we learned (what I already told you) that the witches are taking over in Season 4. Click here for the season 4 spoilers I posted!

Overall, it was a great, if not the best, season of True Blood so far. I think that for such a great season it truly lacked an exciting finale.

In the end it was the greatest overall season, with the worst season finale. Do you agree with me? What did you like or dislike about the finale and/or the season?

When a warlock is murdered and Dulcie was the last person to see him alive, she must uncover the truth before she’s either deported back to the Netherworld, or she becomes the next victim.

Enter Knight Vander, a sinfully attractive investigator sent from the Netherworld to work the case with Dulcie. Between battling her attraction to her self-appointed partner, keeping a sadomasochistic demon in check, and fending off the advances of a sexy and powerful vampire, Dulcie’s got her hands full.

As the body count increases, Dulcie finds herself battling dark magic, reconnoitering in S&M clubs and suffering the greatest of all betrayals.

My Review:
HP Mallory has done it again with To Kill A Warlock. She is a new author that has quickly cemented her place on the top of the list of urban fantasy greats. This novel is another testament as to why she has quickly risen to my top 10 UF author's list. This series is about Dulcie O'Neil, a kick ass fairy Regulator who keeps the creatures of the Netherworld in check. When a warlock is murdered, followed by a spring of other murders to her Netherworld creatures, Dulcie quickly finds herself in the middle of an investigation that rocks her world. Nothing what it seems, No one is who she thinks they are, and all she thought she knew is proving to be wrong. This book has it all! Mystery, romance, danger, betrayal, action, powers, along with twists and turns that will have your racing through the pages to uncover the truth. The intriguing storyline is accompanied by an array of characters that you will love. This includes a seductive vamp, a hot Netherworld investigator, a sadistic demon, a loyal witch, a dreamy elf...just to name a few. This is a definite must read and I'm sure it will quickly be one of your favorite UF series too.

Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble Book Review and Giveaway Details!

Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble, a Paranormal Romance (Jolie Wilkins Series, Book #1)

Title: Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble
Series: Jolie Wilkins Series, Book #1
Author: HP Mallory

Official Synopsis
A self-deprecating witch with the unique ability to reanimate the dead. A dangerously handsome warlock torn between being her boss and her would-be lover. A six hundred year old English vampire with his own agenda; one that includes an appetite for witches. The Underworld in a state of chaos. Let the games begin.

Life isn’t bad for psychic Jolie Wilkins. True, she doesn’t have a love life to speak of, but she has a cute house in the suburbs of Los Angeles, a cat and a quirky best friend.

Enter Rand Balfour, a sinfully attractive warlock who insists she’s a witch and who just might turn her life upside down. Rand hires her to help him solve a mystery regarding the death of his client who also happens to be a ghost. Jolie not only uncovers the cause of the ghost’s demise but, in the process, she brings him back to life!

Word of Jolie’s incredible ability to bring back the dead spreads like wildfire, putting her at the top of the Underworld’s most wanted list. Consequently, she finds herself at the center of a custody battle between a villainous witch, a dangerous but oh-so-sexy vampire, and her warlock boss, Rand.

My Review:
This book in three words: Amazing, Witty, Unique. This is the debut novel by HP Mallory, and already she has proven to be one of the best urban fantasy authors out there right now! This book is about a Jolie. She was just a person trying to live a somewhat normal life, other than the fact  that she can see auras, ghosts, and runs a tarot/psychic reading shop, she was succeeding. All that changes when Rand walks through the door. The hot warlock quickly shows Jolie that she in not your average girl - she's a witch with unbelievable abilities, one of which is to reanimate the dead. All of a sudden Jolie is thrown into the hidden and divided world of the underworld where a war is brewing, and the one person who can tilt the balance in the war is Jolie. Hold on tight as Jolie takes you for the ride of your life! This book has it all! A likable and strong heroine, an array of interesting characters ranging from her human bff to a sexy and potentially dangerous vampire; powerful fairies and hot werewolves; witches and warlocks - just to name a few. Mystery, sexual tension, powers beyond belief, and fantastic writing will have you flying through the pages and dying for the release of the next installment! Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble, a Paranormal Romance (Jolie Wilkins Series, Book #1) is a must read!

Author Spotlight, Q&A, and Giveaway with HP Mallory!

Paromantasy is shining the spotlight on author HP Mallory. HP has two urban fantasy novels that are to die for. The first, Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble, is the first book of a series following the life of a witch named Jolie who has the ability to reanimate the dead, among other things. Her hot warlock mentor is sure to help her uncover all of her powers, and more. Read chapter one here. The second,To Kill A Warlock, is the first in a series about the life of a feisty fairy named Dulcie, who is a Regulator set on uncovering the grisly murders of Netherworld creatures that are popping up around her. Her incredibly sexy Netherworld investigator partner is there to help with the case, and her life. Read chapter one here. View giveaway details at the bottom of the article for a chance to win an e-copy of her books! I have read both novels, and will post my review of Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble tomorrow and To Kill A Warlock on Sunday. What I’m about to tell you right now is a first for me. I had the privilege of meeting and interviewing many great, mostly indie, authors. All have been wonderful, but HP Mallory’s books has exceeded many authors (both traditionally published and indie), and has made it in on my list of favorite urban fantasy authors. She is right up there with the likes of Richelle Mead, Charlaine Harris, and Patricia Briggs. I had the honor of being invited by HP to do a Q&A with Paromantasy about her novels, her publishing experience, and her life.

Let’s give a warm welcome to HP Mallory!

Tell us about yourself. When did you know that you wanted to be a writer?
I’ve always wanted to be a writer—ever since I was a little kid. In high school I used to write book after book after book. Through my college years and early twenties, life seemed to get in the way but now I’m back on track!

Where did you get the ideas for your books from? Particularly your current works To Kill A Warlock and Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble
I didn’t necessarily get my ideas from anywhere really. I just think about various storylines and work out what should happen in each book while I’m driving, sitting in boring meetings, when I can’t sleep…the list goes on. I would definitely say Laurell K. Hamilton and Charlaine Harris’ books really urged me to get out there and write my own stories.

Which character from your books would you rather be: Dulcie O’Neil or Jolie Wilkins and why?
Well, I love Dulcie’s strength of character—she’s one of those women who doesn’t take any crap! And I really love that about her. Jolie, on the other hand, is softer but she learns to become stronger. I would say Jolie, probably. Dulcie has some hang-ups about her ex boyfriend that wouldn’t be fun to live with.

Are your characters based on people you know?
Nope. Pulled them right out of my head.

Who are some of your favorite authors and why?
Classic authors I love Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, Nathaniel West, Shakespeare, Fitzgerald…the list really goes on (I was an English major, what can I say??!). As far as recent books, I love the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris and the early Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton.

What books are you reading now?
Guilty Pleasures Graphic Novel by Laurell K. Hamilton and Marvel Comics. Love it! Just finished Along Came A Demon by Linda Welch which was great.

Was writing and publishing your book exactly how you imagined?
No. LOL. I started with the huge NY agent and when that didn’t go as planned, decided to take the proverbial horse by the reins and be in control of my own destiny. I self published two months ago and haven’t looked back since. I’m thrilled with the success I’ve experienced in this short amount of time and I’m really looking forward to seeing where my career takes me.

Are you working on any other projects we should watch out for?
I’m currently working on the follow up book in the Jolie series, Toil and Trouble. If you would like to be added to my distro list for future books, just drop me a line on my website at: http://www.hpmallory.com/

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book or publishing experience?
I would have self published earlier. But, you learn from everything you experience so I don’t really have any doubts. I’m glad I went the route of getting an agent because it gave me confidence in my writing.

What was the hardest part of writing your book?
The actual writing. LOL. I much prefer editing my written chapters and I’ll edit a chapter at least 5 times. I just love being able to add the juicy details to the bare bones rather than coming up with the bare bones themselves.

What do you do when you are not writing?
I work full time in online marketing and I have a 16 month old son who keeps his mama very busy! LOL

Tell the readers what to expect when reading one of your books.
I like to think of my books as funny, romantic, maybe slightly scary and unpredictable. Hopefully readers will concur.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
I just want to say thank you to everyone who has taken and will take a chance on my books. I know there are a million books out there you can read so it really means a lot to me when someone takes a chance on me!

I’d also like to mention that I’m plastered all over the web so if you’re interested, you can find me at:
