Sound the bells, blow your horns, and throw glitter in the air because we are getting taken over by Stacey Kennedy, urban fantasy romance writer extraordinaire. If you didn’t recognize the name, then I order you to run out and read one of her books right now. She’s here all week, so take your time and get back to me…lol
The great Mrs.Kennedy is the author of numerous series including: The Magical Swords series, The Blue Blood series, The Lingering Spirit Series and The Watchers Series. All of these series have a few things in common. They are all action-packed, temperature-raising, romance-packed, sexually-charged, danger-filled page-turners that will have you racing through the pages and dreaming about the characters for weeks to come. This is not an exaggeration, I literally cannot get The Magical Swords series out of my head. Stacey Kennedy took some time out of her schedule to talk with us about her life, her books, and her supernatural fantasies!
Let’s give a warm welcome to the awesome Stacey Kennedy!
Tell us about yourself I am a thirty two year old wife, mom, house cleaner, cook, teacher, play-doh extraordinaire, swing pusher, toddler chaser after – who loves the outdoors, curling up with the latest flick, and if I’m not plugging away at a new novel, I’ve got my nose buried deep in a good book.
When did you know that you wanted to be a writer? The journey as a writer all began when I was a teen and wrote poetry, which still to this day I pull out to have a good laugh. Later on, I tried a couple of times to put a book together with no such luck. Couldn’t ever get past the first few chapters. But once I was exposed to the paranormal world, ideas came quickly.
At first, it was a way to keep my brain alive since being a stay at home mom can be a little let’s say―numbing. It was an escape from screaming kids, dirty diapers and plain old mom duty. It started as a hobby, but as the stories progressed it became a passion. Now, I indulge whenever I can, especially the juicy bits! Every mom needs a good thrill!
Where do you get your amazing ideas from? Most of my best ideas pop up when I’m writing a story. I’ll be working on a scene, and suddenly, an idea will hit that has nothing to do with the current story I’m writing. Usually, I end up stopping what I’m writing to work on the new project.
Other times, I get ideas from doing nothing at all. A plot will hit me like a ton of bricks and away I go!
I love so many characters from your four series, but my favorite has to be the kick-ass hot-headed, yet warm-hearted Nexi from The Magical Swords series. Which character is your absolute favorite and why? Oh gosh, very hard question. I love all my characters for all different reasons. Nexi is special because she was the first character I ever wrote, and she is by far the funniest. I loved being in her mind and seeing how she dealt with events in her life. Her sense of humor was a blast to write, and there hasn’t been a character since her, who has made me laugh so hard.
But then there is, Rynn, with her soft heart. Briggs who is patient, loving and tough when he needs to be. You’ve got Kipp and Tess, who have a connection that just makes me smile. Then, all The Watchers characters…sigh! Like I said, I love them all!
Kyden, Briggs, Kipp, and every single Seeker from The Watchers series.... the hot guys list from your various series could go on forever. Who would your fantasy man be? I'll go first! Valor (The Blue Blood Series) and Tate (The Watcher series) are my picks – it is impossible to choose just one! They are complete opposites, but I love them both. Valor for his strength, warm-heart, and his ability to always be understanding, even-though he is the head dog in charge...lol. Tate is sex-on-a-stick, but is so funny, dedicated, and loyal to those that he loves that it makes you love him in return. Plus, they are both incredibly hot! Your turn! Here goes…
If I could have one night it would be with Kyden. Holy hell, the man is passionate and determined. It’d provide for one fun evening!
If I had a lifetime, I would want to be with Briggs. Of all my hero’s, he captures my heart the most and literally makes me sigh. He’s so sweet and thoughtful. He only thinks of his mate, protects her at all costs, and that, just makes me melt into a big puddle of goo.
If I had a weekend, it’d be Tate. That man’s smart mouth, arrogant attitude, could thrill me for nights on end.
And if I needed a protector, it’d be Valor. The man exudes strength, but somehow is gentle too. I could lose myself in him. I’ll be starting his series in the coming months and I can hardly wait to get into his mind. Shall be interesting…
Are your characters based on people you know? Nope! Every character is fictional. I don’t even look at pictures, I let the image of them and the character build all on their own.
I love all the different supernatural beings in your books. You have everything from Guardians and Witches; Vamps and Weres; Watchers and Seekers. If you could be a supernatural being, what would it be? Easy answer, Werewolf. Of all the supernatural beings, they are my favorite to write. There is something so sweet about the mate bond. The protective nature over their mates, the bond they share, and the close connection they have with their wolf pack—it’s all a beautiful thing.
Which series was your favorite to write?
Again, impossible answer. I love all my series. Each one is so different it’s hard to compare them. I loved writing The Magical Sword series because Nexi is such a funny character, and her and Kyden’s passion is explosive. The Blue Bloods I enjoy because of the love Briggs and Rynn share…swoon material! The Watchers series is a fun world to write in and I love creating evil demons for them to fight against. The Lingering Spirit series is a great one too, because it really pushes my muse to be creative. With Kipp being a ghost, it made…um…certain love scenes interesting to write.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
I love urban fantasy/paranormal romance. So, give me a book by Katie MacAlister, Jeaniene Frost, Charlaine Harris, Keri Arthur, or Patricia Briggs, and I’m happy!!!
What books are you reading now?
Right now I’m reading, Eve Langlais, Katie MacAlister, and Rebecca Royce, with about a hundred more sitting on my to-be-read list.
Was writing and publishing your book how you imagined?
I had no expectations. I came into publishing brand spanking new, and I was just so happy to be there. I’m a pretty easy going gal, and so far, everything has worked out perfectly. Won’t hear me complaining! I’ve been lucky and I’m grateful to be where I am.
Are you working on any other projects we should watch out for? In the coming months, you’ll likely see, TAINTED BLOOD ~ The Enchanted Sight Book One. It takes off right after Nexi’s books, The Magical Sword series leaves off. Here, we get to see Ryker & Sabi’s story. Take a peek at the blurb:
Earth Witch, Sabi has been gifted with the ability to see premonitions of the darkness that threatens human lives. Safe in the Otherworld she adjusts to these new visions…which isn’t going so well. Luckily, she’s got the sexy Guardian, Ryker to help her work through these visions. He’s intent to show her how to distance herself from them and help her gain control of life. Not that it’s really helping. These visions are leaving her crippled and unable to help pinpoint the killer’s locations to stop these acts from happening.
If that’s not enough to deal with, she soon begins to see vampires on a killing rampage in San Francisco. Vampires are being born and left to fend for themselves, resulting in innocent lives being taken while they’re in the throes of blood lust. But as Sabi’s visions begin to kick up a notch, personal matters need to be put aside. And as the mystery begins to unravel, Sabi will begin to see that these visions are getting far more dangerous and that humans are not the only ones at risk―she is…
I’m also wrapping up, Talon and Zia’s story, A WARRIOR’S WITCH. I hope to have it done soon and sent off to submission. And as always, I’ve got a bunch of erotic romances coming out and currently in submission. Lots of exciting new releases are on the way.
If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your books or publishing experience? I would, I definitely want more of Nexi, but I know all good things must come to an end * sigh*
Nope, I wouldn’t change one darn thing. It’s been an amazing experience for me, I’ve gained a whole world of friends and I’m learning more every day.
What was the hardest part of writing your books? Without a doubt, the hardest part for me is the first three chapters. I LOATHE the beginning of a story. It is by far my biggest struggle, but luckily it’s gotten easier. Doesn’t mean I don’t still hate writing them.
What do you do when you are not writing? Mom things. LOL!
What can readers expect when picking up a Stacey Kennedy book to read? My stories are fast paced—yes, I make them that way on purpose (hate draggy bits)—light-hearted fantasy, heart squeezing, thigh-clenching romance, and even give a good chuckle every now and again.
Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers? Thank you sums it up. I wouldn’t be where I am without the HUGE support I’ve had from my readers. I love hearing how they’ve enjoyed my stories. What they connected with. What characters are their favorites. It makes me so happy to hear when someone has loved my characters as much as I do. So, big hug and kisses to you all!!
