Interview and Giveaway with Amazing Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy Author of The Stella Mayweather Series, Camilla Chafer

Photobucket

We are shining the spotlight on paranormal romance and urban fantasy author Camilla Chafer! She has won me over with her Stellla Mayweather Series which follows the life a socially awkward turned powerful bad-ass witch Stella. We meet Stella in the first book of the series Illicit Magic. After being followed and nearly killed, a stranger saves her and whisks her away just in the nick of time. Her life is turned upside down when she learns that she is not awkward, she is a witch and hunters are after her and all of her kind. Suddenly, she is thrown into a new world where supernaturals exists, murderers are after her and the magic within is just beyond her reach. Will she be able to tap into her powers or will she lose the new world she has gained as quickly as she found it? This series is in one word: Amazing!

Camilla has taken some time off to talk with us about her series, her life, and the fact that I want one of her characters to be my new boy toy :-)

Let's welcome Camilla Chafer!!

Tell us about yourself.
Hi, I’m Camilla and I’m the author of Illicit Magic and Unruly Magic, two paranormal mysteries in the Stella Mayweather series. My day job is as a freelance journalist and editor.

How did you start your career as a writer?
I started out as a journalist writing for websites, magazines and newspapers then moved in to writing non-fiction books, then to being a book editor, before finally getting to do what I wanted to do most – write fiction.

Where did you get the idea for the Stella Mayweather series?
It started out as a ‘what if?’ I’ve always been fascinated by the 17th century witch hunts but I wanted to know what would happen if they happened today, and what if the witches really did have magic.

I love the array of characters and the mix of supernaturals in the series. Which character is your favorite and why?
It’s got to be Stella. She’s such a plucky woman. No matter what life throws at her, she doesn’t falter, she just learns to adapt. I really like how we see her confidence growing through the books.

Which character are you most like?
There’s probably quite a bit of Etoile in me, though I’m not nearly as well dressed.

Stella has two hot guys vying for her attention. Can we expect to see more of this hot love triangle in the next installment? Can I have the guy she leaves behind? lol
Yes, we’ll definitely see more of both of them. Evan is Stella’s first love and there’s a powerful pull there, but Gage is very attractive and there’s definitely a lot of attraction there. Stella’s going to have to ask herself some hard questions, especially as she learns more about her guys. Can you have the guy left behind? Get in the queue!

Who are some of your favorite authors?
Right now I’m really enjoying Rachel Caine’s Weather Warden series – so pacey and full of adventure. Charlaine Harris for her Sookie and Harper Connelly series. Joanne Harris and Sarah Addison Allen for their magical realism. Robin McKinley for The Blue Sword, one of my favourite books, and HP Mallory for her Jolie series.

What books are you reading now?
I’ve just finished reading Gemma Halliday’s High Heels Mysteries, which are fun, frothy reads set in LA.

Are you working on any other projects we should watch out for?
I’m working on the third book in the series which is tentatively called Devious Magic and there will be lots of exciting stuff happening, including Stella being lured back to England. I’m plotting another book which might turn into a series, it’ll be lighter and funnier, but I’m just trying to work out who my hero is.

What was the hardest part of writing your book?
Getting started is tough. I tend to write lots of scenes first to get a feel for what’s happening. With two books out, reader expectations is playing on my mind. Will I write what they will enjoy? Problem is if I try to please everyone, I’ll end up pleasing no one.

What do you do when you are not writing?
Think about what I’m going to write next! I do enjoy watching movies, downloading books to my Kindle, and I’m trying to get fitter at the moment.

If you could be a supernatural being or possess any power, what would it be?
Wouldn’t that be so cool? I’d be a witch and I’d love to be able to teleport anywhere in the world at a moment’s notice.

Tell the readers what to expect when reading one of your books.
Expect lots of mystery, that many things are not what they seem and that nothing is impossible.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
So many readers dream of writing a book. If you’re one of them, what are you waiting for? Put the plan in motion!
