Review of Urban Fantasy / Paranoraml Romance Novel by Rose Pressey: No Shoes, No Shirt, No Spells (Mystic Caffe Series)

Title: No Shoes, No Shirt, No Spells
Series: Mystic Cafe, Book 1
Author: Rose Pressey

Official Synopsis
Elly Blair welcomes the chance to escape her ex-fiance and job from hell when Grandma Imelda, ready to retire to sunny Florida, calls for her to take over her little southern cafe.
Elly has no idea her grandmother has baked up magic for the unsuspecting townsfolk for thirty years–and now Grandma Imelda insists that Elly use her own hitherto unsuspected magical powers to carry on the family tradition.
But Elly’s new at this stuff. Her dishes don’t turn out as full of smidgens of enchantment and dashes of wishes come true as she’d hoped. When handsome customer Rory Covington takes a bite of the wrong burger, he ends up capturing the attention of every woman in town. Elly doesn’t know if her feelings for Rory are true or based on her magic gone awry.

Tom Owenton is an investigator the National Organization for Magic sent to look into the magical mishap. Unless Elly can reverse the spell, the cafe will be closed permanently. Tom is more than willing to help Elly out of this magical pickle, but she’s not sure she should accept his offer.
Elly only has forty-eight hours to find a way to reverse the spell, or she’ll lose the cafe and never discover if her feelings for Rory are real.

My Review
This book has it all! It is laugh-out-loud funny, with a dreamy romance, a "who done it" mystery, uncontrollable magic and a cast of insanely unique character that will hook you and keep you turning the pages until the very end. If you like Practical Magic, Bewitched and Hocus Pocus, then you will love this book!

Clumsy, down-on her-luck Elly Blair has been stepped on and disappointed long enough. She escapes her cheating fiance and her horrid job to return to her hometown of Florida where she takes over her  grandmother's cafe. Grandma Imelda teaches her the ropes before zooming off to retiree heaven where she hopes to find fun and love. Right before she leaves, she lets Elly in on a little secret. She's a witch and her secret ingredient is magic. Magic is the key for most of her recipes, but give the wrong spell to the wrong person, and that is cause for disaster. Learning magic in a quick 5 second tutorial leaver her nervous. Luckily, she has her high school buddy by her side to cheer her on from the sidelines.

When a broken-hearted hunk Rory walks into the cafe, she yearns to make him feel better. After taking his order she sends off his "cheer me up" burger to help mend his heart. Problem is, the waitress mixes up the orders while flirting with Rory and everything goes downhill from there. Rory starts getting stalked by his ex, women crowd around him, Rory thinks he's in love with her, and she gets a visit from Tom Owens, an investigator from the National Organization of Magic. When Tom sees the devastation she has caused, he gives her 48 hours to come up with a solution or the cafe will be closed.

If that's not bad enough, on her quest to save the cafe she also finds herself being pulled into her attraction for Rory. The problem is, she doesn't know if he really love her or if he blinded by magic.

With her life in a tailspin, her heart threatening to be broken, and her grandmother's cafe and hard work being threatened, Elly has the world on her shoulders. Will she be able to save the cafe that has been in her family for years? If she does, will she lose Rory, the person she has fallen completely in love with? And the biggest question: Will she ever get things right?

This book is so much fun. It is an unputdownable read that will have you flipping the pages and laughing aloud as you join Elly on her crazy journey of love, mystery and magic.

This book is rated 5 fangs!
