Review and Giveaway of Dark Erotic Paranormal Romance book, The Heart Of War by Lisa Darling

The Heart of War

Title: The Heart of War
Series: Of War Series, Book One
Author: Lisa Beth Darling

Official Synopsis
Inside the Heart of every Warrior breathes the Soul of a Hero--even within The Heart of War.

Meet Ares God of War, the greatest Warrior the world has ever known. He's moody, grumpy, dominant, ravenously sexual, and above all, built like a Greek God. Suspected of killing his Daughter in-Law, Psyche, and long in exile from Olympus, the solitude of Ares' secluded Greek Isle is interrupted when Magdalena MacLeod a plucky little Fey washes up on his shore after believing she's been shipwrecked. It's not mere fate that has brought the unlikely couple together yet it may be what tears them apart.

Branded with a golden chastity belt bearing the mark of Cernunnos, Celtic God of the Forest and Death, Alena has been on the run from her husband the Great Horned God for 200 years. When the Olympians
discover her presence on Ares' island, they send Apollo to the island while Ares is away with orders to bring her to Olympus. With nowhere to run and strikes a bargain with the God of War--her virginity for his
protection. Ares sees a sweeter deal; her in his bed and himself back in his rightful place on Olympus among
the Gods. If it means turning Alena over to Zeus afterward, well that's of no consequence to him...is it? After Alena proves herself to the God of War in battle and in his bed, Ares must choose between his Divinely Dysfunctional Family, his pride, and Alena.

Get lost in this sweeping dark saga of lust, rage, revenge, and redemption. Battle Ancient Gods while falling in love with Ares God of War and Alena MacLeod. They share a love that will rock the world from the heights of Olympus to the Celtic moors.

Sink more than just your teeth into a real paranormal sizzler.

My Review
The Heart of War has it all: Heart-pumping action, blood-boiling romance, spine-tingling danger, head-puzzling mystery, and in the middle of it all rages the biggest war of all time...the war of love and with that, the heart of war.

Ares is the God of War, and has always looked out for numero uno. After being worngly accused of the murder of the goddess Psyche and banished from Olympus, he sets base on an island - roaming the mortal world and taking a number of women to his island to do his bidding, while also taking men to form his own personal army. There he lives a simple life bedding his women and doing as he pleases, that all changes when a mysterious woman washes up on his shores. Intrigued he lets her live, but little does he know that she will alter his life forever... Alena is a fairy who has been on the run after being forced to marry the evil God Cernunnos, Celtic God of the Forest and Death, and having a chastity belt placed on her at an early age. After witnessing the horrid things Cernunnos is capable of, she runs and lives in constant fear of being discovered, only to find that there are others capable of evil in the world. After an encounter leaves her memory in shambles and her struggling for life in the depths of the seas, she is rescued when she washes up on the shore of an island..Ares' island. She soon finds that Cernunnos is not the only God that she should run from. Ares is everything that she never wanted, but soon finds herself needing. When the pair unite their worlds are flipped upside down, and all that they thought they wanted turns out to be the last thing they need. With love growing between them with every day that passes, they must soon make a decision - stay together or grasp the dream they have been chasing from the beginning. Can Alena give her heart and her freedom to a God when she sees what they are capable? Will Ares pick love over the chance to reclaim his throne on Olympus? More importantly, will Cernunnos destroy all that they love and worked for before it even has a chance to begin?

This book will have you laughing, crying, cheering and screaming as it takes you on an emotional roller coaster with Alena and Ares at the wheel. This is a gripping book that will leave you breathless and wanting more!

She must be crazy.

Amber sat in the passenger seat of Kearn’s Audi, heading to a ball full of vampires, with a chance of one of them attempting to capture her and bleed her.

The words had sounded good at the time, the right thing to say to make her appear strong to Kearn, even when she had been on the verge of breaking inside. The things the man had done to her with only his mind, the dark thoughts he had placed inside her, terrified her, and now they were heading into dangerous territory just for the chance of meeting him again.

Even Kearn thought she was crazy for suggesting they go to the masquerade. That had to be the reason he hadn’t said a word all evening. He hadn’t even complimented her when she had walked out of his bedroom in her ball gown. His eyes had remained cold and impassive. She had mentioned how handsome he looked and he had merely holstered his gun at his hip, covered it with his black mid-thigh length military-style jacket, and turned away towards the door.

He did look handsome though. No. He was gorgeous.

The black jacket had a double set of bright silver buttons down the breast, and silver-blue embroidery around the hem, cuffs and the tall collar. The thick material didn’t conceal his physique. It stretched tight across his chest, emphasising his muscles. The finger-length silver strands of his hair brushed the collar at the back and by his ears, almost white against the contrast of black.

She looked across at him as he drove. They were heading out of central London, towards the suburbs. He changed gear and her gaze fell to his legs. They looked lithe but powerful in his tight black trousers that were tucked into black over-knee riding boots with bright shiny buckles.

The woman at the club had worn something similar. Was this Kearn’s uniform? If human police wore such a thing, even more women would be falling over each other to get to them.

The car slowed and she faced front. Her heart pounded at the sight of the huge black wrought iron gates opening ahead of her and the massive sandstone house beyond. It was beautiful, impressive with the façade lit and every window on all three storeys emanating a warm glow. With the long corseted black dress she wore, Kearn in his uniform, and this house, she felt as though she had fallen back in time to a period when the rich threw balls full of ladies and gentlemen, like the romantic dramas on the television.

Kearn parked the car at the end of a row of sombre-coloured Bentleys and Rolls-Royces and flashy black sports cars.

Amber followed him out of the car. The golden gravel crunched under her black heeled shoes. She stood with her black gloved arm on the roof of Kearn’s car and tried to take it all in. A large fountain stood in the centre of the courtyard, the water lit with the same warm lights as the house and flowing like molten gold. She had never felt so out of place. She had never imagined that vampires would live in a place like this. She had always thought they would live wherever they could, hiding in the shadows and stalking humans, like monsters, not that they would lead grand lives and be rich and powerful.

A couple walked past them.

And beautiful.

They both wore black and were talking and laughing just like people, only she could see a difference in them. The way they held themselves, tall and proud, posture perfect, set them apart from anyone she knew. They emanated a sense of nobility, of grace and power.

The brunette smiled at the man, her dark eyes melting into red, and placed a slim black mask across them. He smiled back at her, adjusting the mask so it settled over her eyes and tightly fitted her delicate features. He slipped his own mask on and preened his short sandy hair back.

“Countess Huntingdon and Marquess Pendragon.” Kearn’s voice was pure darkness.

Countess Huntingdon? Amber knew that name from Kearn’s book. Could someone so beautiful really be so bloodthirsty?

When she turned to ask Kearn, he was staring at her dress. He had chosen well this time. She had expected him to buy her another ridiculous outfit, but it was glamorous and refined, elegant enough to make her feel as though she might fit in at the ball. The straps of the black satin corset were ribbon, tied at her shoulders, with tails that flowed down her back, tickling her. The long skirt almost reached the floor, cut in such a way that it didn’t cling to her legs but still gave away their shape.

She had tied her hair up, twisting the lengths into a messy gathering at the back of her head, and had surrounded her eyes in dark make-up while painting her lips red.

When she had stepped in front of the mirror in Kearn’s bathroom, her reflection had been exactly how she imagined a vampire looked—all sensual and seductive. She felt that way, especially now that Kearn’s eyes were roaming over her body and leaving a hot trail in their wake. She kept still, not wanting his attention to leave her.

“You should take your hair down.” His gaze touched on her throat and red ringed his irises.

Amber shook her head. Her neck wasn’t on show to get the vampire’s attention, or anyone’s at the ball. It was to get Kearn’s attention and it was working. She wanted him to want her. She wanted to lure him to her and have him kiss her again. She wanted his eyes on her and her alone tonight.

With so many vampires around, he would be distracted from her and would perhaps speak with some of them. It was selfish and childish of her, but she wanted him all to herself.

Kearn turned away and started towards the house. Amber hastened after him and fell into step beside him. Had she upset him by refusing his suggestion? No. He had been quiet since last night.

Amber tried to feel his emotions but wasn’t sure how it worked. Before, she had felt things without even trying. Now, she was trying her hardest but she couldn’t detect anything. Had the strange connection between their blood ended, or was he somehow blocking her attempts?

The bright foyer of the mansion was stunning. Gold candelabras lined the twin white marble staircases curving up in front of her towards a balcony and a massive crystal chandelier hung in the open space above her.

“Sir, I will need to see your licence.”

Amber looked over at Kearn. He was with a man at the bottom of the left staircase. The vampire couple were near the top. The woman was walking very delicately, lifting the skirt of her dress with one hand and holding the man’s arm with the other. He was still smiling and talking.

Kearn reached into the collar of his jacket and pulled out something on a silver chain. Amber couldn’t see it clearly. The man blocking his way nodded and stepped aside. Amber hurried over to Kearn and glanced at the man. He wore a black tailcoat like a butler. There had been men outside in similar outfits. Staff? She supposed a house this big would need staff. Was he human or did some vampires work for other ones? That completely shattered her image of vampires. Did some of them have jobs? She supposed that Kearn did, although it seemed more like a calling than a profession. Before she had met him, she had thought that vampires would all be out for themselves, looking after number one, rather than serving others or caring for them. The idea that they had families would have seemed ridiculous. She had so much to learn about Kearn’s world. Every moment she spent in it challenged her perspective of things and changed her forever.

She followed Kearn up the stairs. There was so much to take in and think about that it pushed her fear to the back of her mind, leaving only excitement filling her.

The vampire couple stopped at the top of the stairs. Another couple in front of them walked through a wide arch and disappeared from view on the other side. The sound of the orchestra and choir sent a shiver over Amber’s skin and made her fine hairs stand on end. It was beautiful. Amber ran her black gloved hand up the bright brass railing of the staircase and looked into the foyer below. More vampires were following them, all wearing black. Laughter rang out from one group and she recognised one of the vampires from the club. Her heart beat quicker at the reminder that any of the men here could be the one after her blood. It snapped her back to reality. Her fascination with this new world and her breathtaking surroundings had made her forget why she was here.

Kearn’s stern look said that he hadn’t forgotten. His green gaze was on the group below them. The man was staring back at him, an equally dark expression on his face.

Amber moved closer to Kearn. He stopped at the top of the stairs and glanced at her. There was a flicker of something in his eyes that she couldn’t quite interpret. Nerves? Fear? Worry? All she could feel were her own anxiety and excitement.

“Is it tradition for everyone to wear black?” She hadn’t seen one person wearing another colour.

“Duke Montagu declared that his ball this year would be a midnight masquerade.” Kearn adjusted the collar of his black military-style jacket. “Every year has a colour.”

“Marquess Pendragon and Countess Huntingdon.” A loud voice echoed up from the other room and the vampire couple at the top walked forwards. The man held his hand out, palm down, and the woman laid hers on top of it.

They were announcing the guests?

Amber swallowed. They didn’t know her name. Would they even announce someone like her? Everyone would probably stare if they did.

“What happened back there with the servant?” she whispered to Kearn, remembering the licence the man had asked for.

“My appearance is not enough to confirm me as a Venator.” He unclipped the stand-up collar of his black jacket and pulled out a small silver medal on a chain. She didn’t have a chance to see it properly before he was putting it away again. “I need to show my licence to prove my status and to allow me entrance to this sort of affair where so many important people are gathered.”

No emotion touched his voice and he didn’t look at her. His green gaze remained focused on the entrance to the other room.

For a brief moment, she caught a glimmer of his feelings.

For some reason, that unsettled her.

Why was he nervous?

She forced herself to focus on something else. Would his family be on the other side? He had said he was of noble blood. Kyran was sure to be there. She couldn’t imagine him missing something like this.

Amber looked back down the stairs. The group she had seen enter were all masked now. She didn’t have a mask and neither did Kearn. He had said they wouldn’t need one but everyone else was wearing them.

She turned to see Kearn standing near the arch glaring at her and hurried forwards, almost tripping on her dress.

“Do not say a word,” he said when she reached him and she heard the nerves in his voice now. “Do not speak unless spoken to, do not stare, control your emotions as much as possible and remain close to me.”

Amber glanced through the arch at the room beyond and her breath left her. Golden tones lit the expansive rectangular room stretching out below her, warming the dark red walls and reflecting off the ceiling height mirrors that lined the walls between equally tall windows. The choir rose with the orchestra and her heart fluttered. It was incredible. In the centre of the room, a river of black dancers moved at a swift pace, all of them in perfect synchronisation as though choreographed. More people lined the edges of the room, some walking around and others gathered in groups. She had never seen anything like it.

Kearn grabbed her arm and yanked her forwards.

“Pay attention,” he hissed beneath his breath and she fell into line beside him at the top of the wide red-carpeted staircase that swept down into the ballroom. He let go of her arm and straightened his jacket out.

He wasn’t the only one nervous now. Her heart jumped around all over the place and she tried to calm it but couldn’t. Her throat was parched. She needed a drink. Something alcoholic, and strong.

The servant at the top of the stairs raised an eyebrow at her and then turned to face the room. She glanced to her right, at Kearn, and he titled his chin up. He looked so noble and handsome, proud and powerful like the Marquess Pendragon. She wanted to look that way too so the vampires would see they weren’t the only ones who could do beautiful and graceful.

She raised her head, faced forwards, and took a deep breath.

Kearn’s words echoed in her head like a mantra. Don’t speak unless spoken to. Don’t stare. Don’t let her feelings get the better of her.

“Venator Savernake!” the man to her left announced.

Amber expected Kearn to offer his arm. He didn’t. He walked down the stairs at a slow pace and she followed unsteadily on trembling legs, her ankles wobbling in the heeled shoes. It was impossible to calm her nerves.

The entire room had stopped.

A sea of red eyes stared at her from behind black masks and she felt their hatred deep within her.

She held it together and kept walking. Vampires waited at the bottom of the stairs, their eyes boring into her. Her hand twitched, tempted to touch her bare throat and cover it. She felt exposed and vulnerable. This was the craziest idea she’d ever had and something said that she was going to pay for it with her own blood.

“You said they wouldn’t stare at me,” she whispered.

“They are not looking at you.”

Felicity Heaton is a romance author writing as both Felicity Heaton and F E Heaton. She is passionate about penning paranormal tales full of vampires, witches, werewolves, angels and shape-shifters, and has been interested in all things preternatural and fantastical since she was just a child. Her other passion is science-fiction and she likes nothing more than to immerse herself in a whole new universe and the amazing species therein. She used to while away days at school and college dreaming of vampires, werewolves and witches, or being lost in space, and used to while away evenings watching movies about them or reading gothic horror stories, science-fiction and romances.

Having tried her hand at various romance genres, it was only natural for her to turn her focus back to the paranormal, fantasy and science-fiction worlds she enjoys so much. She loves to write seductive, sexy and strong vampires, werewolves, witches, angels and alien species. The worlds she often dreams up for them are vicious, dark and dangerous, reflecting aspects of the heroines and heroes, but her characters also love deeply, laugh, cry and feel every emotion as keenly as anyone does. She makes no excuses for the darkness surrounding them, especially the paranormal creatures, and says that this is their world. She’s just honoured to write down their adventures.

Q&A and Giveaway with Paranormal Romance Author of The Heart of War - Lisa Beth Darling!

We are shining the spotlight on one of an author who has turned me into an instant fan with her Dark Erotic Paranormal Romance book, The Heart of War. The Heart of War follows the stories of Ares, the God of War, and Alana a fairy on the run. When she washes up on the shores of Ares island, their worlds change. Suddenly, the God who has been only out for himself and the fairy who has been hiding from her past find that the biggest war will be against the sudden love for each other. Will they risk it all to be together or will their past come back to rip them apart? This book in one word: Amazing! Check back for my full review tomorrow.

Lisa was kind enough to take some time out of her busy schedule to come to have a chat about her life, her books, and a certain delicious (see pic below) inspiration that started this delectable series!

Let's give it up for Lisa Beth Darling!!

Who is Lisa Beth Darling? Tell us about yourself.
I'm a wife, mother, photographer, gardener, and a part-time secretary in an insane law firm. I've been married to my wonderful and talented husband, Roy, for the last 25 years and we have two adult daughters.

When did you know that you wanted to be a writer?
I was given my first creative writing assignment in 4th grade and I was hooked. I was instantly transported to a tiny world of my own creation. I knew that this was what was I was going to do the rest of my life. After that, whenever someone asked me "What do you want to be when you grow up?" I always said "A writer."

Why write paranormal romance? What attracted you to the genre?
I was introduced to the Master, Stephen King, at the age of 10. That was another 'eureka!' moment in my life, again, I was hooked, and I never looked back. With the exception of "The Dark Tower Series" I have voraciously read everything he's written. He took my breath away and took me to places dark and scary that made my heart race and my pulse pound as I fought to hold onto the book and turned pages with shaking hands. Good stuff!

I didn't get into romance stories until Junior High when I added Harold Robbins, Jacqueline Susan, Judith Rossner and (shamefully) one or two Danielle Steele stories, to my reading repertoire but it didn't all start coming together to form my particular writing style until I read VC Andrews and an obscure romance novel entitled "Raven" by Shana Carrol. By the end of 8th grade I'd written my very first full-length novel, "Save Me from the Roses", it blended all of the above. People thought it an odd combination back then because there was no such thing as "paranormal romance" so I just called it "horror with romance".

Where did you get the idea for The Heart of War from?
A lot of things came together for me in Junior High, at least as far as my long term future would pan out. (A lot of things fell apart in Junior High too and confused the heck out of me just like everyone else.) In 7th grade my English teacher introduced us to all sorts of wonderful things and one of them was Greek Mythology. I was outstandingly lucky enough to have the same teacher in 12th grade when we did the Greek Tragedies and more Greek Mythology. Yep, a few more 'eureka' moments to be sure. I found it all completely fascinating. I fell in love with Ares, no one understood it, he was the villain, the bad guy, he was HORRIBLE as far as everyone else was concerned. But I never really saw him that way. I tended to see him as being the scapegoat in many instances.

Years after graduating high school, as I got married, raised my kids, and I continued writing my little stories, two TV shows made their debuts: "Hercules the Legendary Journeys" and "Xena Warrior Princess". They were fun shows, just plain fun, a little campy, bad effects, but decent acting and they stayed (fairly) true to a lot of the mythology. Long about the 3rd season of "Herc" this absolutely mind-blowingly drop-dead gorgeous hunk burst onto the scene to play Ares. Kevin Smith knocked me off my feet. He really did. He still does, just looking at a picture of him is enough to make my heart race and my brow break out in a light bead of sweat. (RIP, my man, you are sorely missed.)

In between the years those two shows went off the air and another show came called "Highlander: The Series" my writing turned from original fiction to what is now called "fan fiction" (again, back then there wasn't really a name for it and you didn't advertise that you wrote it for fear you'd be sued! Yes, times have drastically changed for the better.) The novel was entitled "Highlander: Forever" and that was the first story I used Ares in, he came in at the tail end, as the heroine's father. It was a very small part.

A few years later another show came on the air, "Stargate SG-1" and the character of 'Daniel Jackson' caught my attention. I wrote a HUGE fan fiction series entitled "Daughter of the Gods" it consisted of 6 novels and 30 short stories. Ares came back to play the heroine's father once more but this time he wasn't satisfied with being a minor character and he damn near took over the entire series of stories. He did not like taking a backseat to 'Daniel Jackson' in the slightest! To put it mildly, he thought Danny was a wimp and he never let me forget it.

It came time to start another novel and I was uninspired. I hate it when that happens. So, in order to maybe find a little inspiration, I went to the Almighty Google and typed in "Kevin Smith shirtless". This was the first return:

Oh! Be still my little fluttering heart!

That picture met my eye, I lit up like the Christmas Tree in Rockerfeller Center, and "The Heart of War" was born in about 30 seconds. I'm not kidding. Within 30 seconds of looking at the above photograph, I had a 500 page novel in my head just screaming to get out.

Which is your favorite character?
Ares, of course. I'm doing this entire series just for him.

If you could change anything in the book, would you?
It's gotten some totally fabulous reviews but it's gotten panned a lot too on account of the violence in it. I've been wrestling with toning that down in the sequel "Child of War". I don't want to, I want to write whatever the story calls for with no holds barred because, well, that's the way I do it. I write for adults and I treat them like adults who are capable of understanding and handling the world in which they live. Obviously, not every qualifies but I can't make everyone happy either. Those who don't like their reading material dark and gritty should just not read my stuff.

What can you tell us about the sequel, Child of War, due out in December?
Ares and Alena will welcome their first child, Raven, into the world. Have you ever seen "The Omen"? LOL Raven has inherited his Father's temper and he is a very angry young man, most of his anger is directed at his mother, Alena. He'll be causing quite a bit of problems for her as will Zeus, Apollo, Morpheus, and a few of the other Olympians. We'll be discovering lots of interesting things about the origins of the Olympians and the Celtic Gods, along with those of the Fae, Muse, Grace, and Nymph. I'd like to say that it will all work out in the end but I never make that kind of guarantee.

Who are some of your favorite authors?
The Master, of course, Stephen King. I used to read a lot of Mary Higgins Clark until I started being able to figure whodunit before I was ¼ of the way through the book. VC Andrews, I still adore the "Flowers in the Attic" series, I think it's bold and brilliant. If you should ever come across an old beat-up copy of "Raven" by Shanna Carrol read it! Also, look for any blue pen marking over the page numbers, if you find them, it's probably my old copy!

What book(s) are you reading now?
I received a copy of "Full Dark, No Stars" for my birthday last year but I still haven't cracked it and that's really ticking me off. I just can't seem to find the time to sit down and read anymore.

If you could be any supernatural being or have any super power, what would it be?
I wouldn't mind being a full-fledged Goddess…well, at least I'd like to try it out for a day or a week or a year.

Are you working on any other projects we should watch out for?
Right now, the "Of War" series is the only thing on my plate. "Child of War" may turn into 2 novels by itself with the way everything's going. People, for the most part, don't seem to want to read full-length novels any longer and this one could easily turn out to be a bit longer than "Heart of War". So we may end up with "Child of War-Raven-The Early Years" which would be much less 'violent' than "Heart of War" and sort of a transitional story. Then we would have "Child of War-Rising Son" which will take us back to the full-blown balls-to-the-wall type of a story that "Heart" is. Either way, once "Child" is finished there is one more novel in the series "Spoils of War" and that should wrap everything up. After that, it's anybody's guess what will pop into my head and take over my life next.

True Blood Season 4, Episode 5: "I Hate You, I Love You"

True Blood Episode 5,Eric,Sookie,Eric and Sookie Kissing

I have missed the recaps of the last two episodes, but I'll be posting them this week for those who are left behind. So I am doing a bit fast forwarding with the recap of True Blood Season 4, Episode 5: "I Hate You, I Love You" This has been one of my faves so far, maybe because of the Sookie and Eric Kissing scene. Want to find out more? Then keep reading. Here we go!

Arlene, Terry and the Baby from Hell

The baby gave whole knew meaning to the phrase “writing on the wall.” Terry must admit that something funky is going on after the words “he is not yours” was written in red by the baby…creepy. They decide to call for reinforcements and the Reverend and Tara’s mommy (his new wife) come to the…rescuew? They chant, thy dance the attempt to smoke out the house, and in the end that helped diddly squat. As Arlene and Terry talk about the new sense of peace after cleansing the house the matched on their bedside table mysteriously goes off.

Jason and the relationships of Jessica and Hoyt...and Jason and Hoyt?
True Blood Episode 5,Jason

Jason is rescue by Hoyt and Jessica – well more by Jessica and that vamp juice of hers. They take him home where Hoyt stys with him after getting into a mini argument with Jessica. He knows she is keeping something from him, and she is not telling.Later, they go to Merlotte’s here Jason says sex brings him pain. Every bad thing has been from sex: his v-addiction, his spot as man-whore to the panthers, the murder case that was brought against him. Hoyt agrees. Later, Jason starts having some wicked dream about Jessica (there goes that whole talk about sex is bad). The problem is that she keeps calling out Hoyt's name and when she finally gets it right, Hoyt shows up to spoil the fun. Jason tells Hoyt to leave and is getting in the groove when he looks up and it is Hoyt who is now straddling him, not Jessica...ewww. He was in Jessica's clothes too - not a pretty site..lol

Sam and Tommy
There is nothing like a good murder to bring siblings together. Tommy was being beaten down by his father with his mother just looking on. When his dad thinks that Tommy is unconscious, he releases the chain around his neck and goes to mama to tell her to chillax (not in those exact words). Tommy jumps up and strangles his Dad. When his mother attacks him he pushes her to her death. He turns to the only family he has left..Sam. They put the bodies in a van and take off when Andy stops them. Tommy goes to the back to hide with the bodies while Andy speaks to Sam. He makes Sam open the back of the van and he finds....a crocodile. Tommy finally used his head. Sam tells Andy he was returning it to the swap. Andy who is now on his ass after opening the door and finding a croc just nods him away. They head for the swamp and dump the bodies. Sam throws marshmallows into the water and the crocs eat the bodies. He tells Tommy, "Crocs love marshmallow." See, True Blood is both fun and educational ":-)

He makes a brief appearance when the Shreveport pack leader goes to his house and tries to intimidate Alcide. He's not having it, but it looks like trouble is brewing for Alcide and Debbie. Raise your hand if you think Debbie is going to make Alcide regret going back to her.....Me too!

Lafayette, Jesus and Tara
True Blood Episode 5,True Blood Episode 5,Lafayette,Jesus,Lafayette and Jesus

They are up sh*ts creek without a paddle when it comes to how deeply involved they are with the whole Vamps vs Crazy Witch battle that has been going on. First, Marnie (with their background help) turns Eric into the easy-going, childish, yet completely adorable man we see now - who has no clue who he is. Then, she turns Pam, who is quite concide, is left looking like Bride of Chucky when Marnie puts a sort of rotting spell on her - not pretty. Lafayette is pissed, along with the rest of the crew and they leave Marnie in the woods as they go home. See Lafayette's hilarious comments under Favorite Quotes below. Jesus decides that they should go to Mexico to seek the help of his brujo grandfather. He tells the story of how is granddad made him kill the goat and lick its blood and the power he felt with it. All I want to do is yell."Lafayette - stay away!!" But he doesn't listen to me and he leaves Tara to go with Jesus. They arrive and the scariest grandad ever takes them in...all I'm thinking is: no bueno. In the meantime, tara goes to Sookie for comfort after she calls her girlfriend, who did what most girlfriends do...snoop. She finds out that Toni is Tara. Tara tells Sookie all about it and is pouring her heart out when Eric comes out of his hidey hole. Tara lets all the bad things Eric has done roll off her tongue and runs out on them both.

Eric and Sookie
True Blood Episode 5,Eric. Sookie,Eric Biting Sookie

Eric creeps up to Sookie's room when Godrick appears. The ghost demands that he drain Sookie because vamps are incapable of love. He is just about to do just that when he wakes up - it was a dream. He gets up and makes his way to her room, opens the door fangs out, and inches to her bed. Sookie wakes up screaming when he tells her he had a bad dream and wants to stay with her until sunrise. She strokes his hair unable to believe that in her lap lays the notorious Eric Northam. He says the sweetest thing (Favorite Quotes> and goes to bed. Sookie is on a mission to help Eric and she starts with Holly. Since they are both working the same shift, she pretends she has an interest in witchcraft. When she starts to question her on the whole Vampire memory issue - Holly tells her she doesn't want to talk about it because she has kids and doesn't want to get mixed up in vamp business (a little late for that). That doesn't stop Sookie from reading her mind, which pretty much says that she is staying clear of nut-bags Marnie and will not go back to the Moon Goddess witch shop. With that piece of info, Sookie then goes to that very shop and meets Marnie, who is reluctant to give Sookie a reading, Sookie blabs about how she is interested in witch craft and readings...blah, blah, blah. Marnie finally agrees to give her one, probably just to shut her up. She asks for a personal item and Sookie gives her the necklace she is wearing. Marnie hears and sees the ghost of Sookie's grandma. With Sookie's ability to hear minds she can hear her grandma's voice telling her not to fall in love, that it is only temporary and most importantly...RUN...Marnie is dangerous. Marnie responds by denying that she is a danger, but Sookie grabs her necklace and says "If my gran tells me to run, I run" and takes off. We later see her with Tara when Eric comes out and all the secrets of his not so nice guy ways. When Tara storms off, Eric is left feeling guilty. He asks her is all that Tara says is true and Sookie confirms it. She tells him that he was not all bad, but he is stricken with guilt. He walks out of the door to leave when she runs after him. He walk backs to her and BAM..the kiss we have been waiting for. Sookie is one lucky fairy, if you discount the danger, killed family members and lack of privacy...I think it's even if you get to kiss Eric - What do you think?

True Blood Episode 5,Eric,Sookie,Eric and Sookie Kissing

Pam and Bill

Portia is after Bill and she isn't going to let a little thing like being related stop her from getting her man. Bill, on the other hand, is not into the whole incest thing (see that Morgan Freedman - great grand kids are a no-no). She starts rambling on about how incest is legal in a few states and the only reason it is illegal in some is because of the risk of birth defects in children. Vamps and humans can't have kids so she says it is not a problem. Realizing that his great-great-great-great granddaughter is completely insane, he glamors her into thinking that she is terrified of him and has zero romantic interest in him. She "awakens" screaming and running out of the room - that is one problem down, but don't settle down so soon Bill. Pam shows up and she is one pissed off vamp and I mean more so than usual. We all know she is pretty self-confident and she is not taking too kindly to being turned into a rotting monster (see pic above - yucky!). She turns to Bill for help. She wants revenge but the council does not want human blood shed which puts him in a pickle and Pam in a bad mood. They decide that they are not going to sit around letting Marnie pick off each vamp. They have a plan. Katerina (the witch working for Bill) shows up at Marnie's shop and pretends to be buddy-buddy with Marnie when she calls in Bill's soldiers to take Marnie down. They take her to a cell with a nice camera set up where Bill and Pam can question her from afar. They ask her what she did to Eric when he "disappeared" and Pam and how to reverse it. She says she doesn't know. Bill decides to man up and put her to the test, even with Pam trying to warn him. He goes down to her cell and glamors her where he finds out she really does not know - only that stupid spirit does, but he doesn't know that yet. He calls a meeting with the Louisiana sheriff to discuss the gravity of the situation when Pam breaks and tells them that theses witches are no joke as evident by her face and Eric's memory..oops - Bill wasn't suppose to know that she had contact with Eric. He catches on quick and demands to know where Eric is when she whispers "Sookies". Bill is in shock that Sookie lied to him and flies out of the door while Pam looks stricken and apologizes to her maker for her stupid mistake.

The sight of Eric and Sookie kissing is going to really piss off Eric and I cannot wait!!

Now for my Favorite Quotes!!
Best One Liner Award goes to: Lafayette
Lafayette to Marnie after she turned Pam into a rotting corpse:
“Hooker, you pissed off another vampire, then you took a goddamn nap,”....“Oh, Witchiepoo, you have royally screwed us.” love it!! He is never short of hilarious one liners!

Most Romantic Quote Award goes to: Eric!!
When he goes to sleep next to Sookie after having a nightmare, he says:
“I would never hurt anyone as beautiful as you,”  *swoon*

The Freaky Funny Award goes to: Jessica
“You just saved my best friend’s life,” Hoyt tells her. “It’s all in the wrist,” she whispers after saving Jason with her blood
Dumbest Comment Award goes to: Jason
A recovered Jason is telling Hoyt about his traumatic stay in Hot Shots. He says that everything bad that has happened to him was because of sex. He goes through his greatest hits: Jealous boyfriends, drug addiction, murder accusations. Perhaps God is punishing him for sleeping with too many women. “I’m thinking maybe you ain’t the only one being punished,” Hoyt says. Jason gasps. “Jessica raped you?”
He is so naive it is adorable...sometimes and because he is a cutie :-)

How did you like the episode? Were you doing the happy dance when Eric and Sookie kissed? Let me hear your thoughts!!

I should mention that I did not include some of my faves like HP Mallory, Stacey Kennedy, Edie Ramer and Toni LoTempio simply because I can chat with them. If you haven't read their books 0 run out now and read them You will not be disappointed!!

Book Blogger Hop

“What’s the ONE GENRE that you wish you could get into, but just can’t?"
That is easy for me - non-fiction books, especially pertaining to history. I see my boss reading all of these history books and memoirs and I feel like a total stooge with my PNR book..lol. Oh well, my books are highly entertaining and many do have a mythology and/or folklore aspect going on - right?..hehe.

Have a great weekend!

Q&A and Giveaway with Urban Fantasy Author of Blood Faerie - India Drummond

We are shining the spotlight on fantasy author India Drummond. I have just finished reading her first book of the Caledonia Fae series, Blood Faerie, and it was amazing. The story follows a fae named Eilidh. Possessing a forbidden power, she has been sentenced to death and has run away, living a life in secrecy among the Mortal world. When murders spring up around her, she realizes that it is not a human commiting the crimes, but one of her own. Soon Elidith realizes that the Mortals aren't the only ones to fear. As she gets closer to the truth with the help of an unlikely friend, Eilidh finds herself in the face of danger. Will she be able to defeat the fae responsible or is all hope lost? This book is a page-turner filled with action, danger, romance and a world that instantly grabs you! Check back tomorrow for my full review.

The uber-talented India Drummond was kind enough to sit down with us and answer a few questions about her life, her books, and the genious behind Blood Faerie.

Let's give a warm welcome to India!

Hi India, Tell us about yourself.
I knew from childhood that writing would be my passion. Since then I’ve discovered many more, but none quite so fulfilling as creating a world, a character, or a moment and watching them evolve into something complex and compelling. I have lived in three countries and four American states, am a dual British and American citizen, and currently live at the base of the Scottish Highlands in a village so small its main attraction is a red phone box. In other words: paradise.

When did you know that you wanted to be a writer?
From the time I realised it was a real job. I remember asking my mother why someone else's name was on the front of my books. I was amazed and delighted to learn that some people made money by just making stuff up.

Where do you get the idea for Blood Faerie from?
It all started with St. Paul's Church, which is an important setting in the book. Its steps are the location of the first murder, and my main character hides in the abandoned building frequently. I see it every time I go into Perth (I live in a village just outside the city), and something about this old and ruined, yet beautiful structure, sparked my imagination.

Which character is your absolute favorite and why?
Although this surprises me, it would have to be PC Quinton Munro. He's just so normal, in a world where he's faced with some very not-normal things. And there's something honest and real about him that I love.

Are your characters based on people you know?
They may have been when I was first learning how to write, but it didn't take long to get that out of my system. Now I find it easier to create someone that I don't have any feelings or preconceived ideas about. That gives me more freedom to let them change and grow as the plot develops.

If you could be a supernatural being, what would it be?
Hmm, that's really tough, especially since I tend to write my own rules for the magic and beings in my books, rather than relying on myths or traditional tales. I am really enjoying exploring the faerie world in this current series, but I might change my mind when my next series rolls around, and I'm delving into something new!

Which character was your favorite to write?
I found Eilidh the most interesting, because I could really see her clearly in my mind. With every situation, I enjoyed watching her interact with the world and give her own perspective on it. She made ordinary things seem special or even strange.

Who are some of your favorite authors?
I read widely, enjoying fantasy, thrillers, crime, sci-fi, romance, and I've come to appreciate the occasional historical novel. So I find it nearly impossible to narrow it down! I have read just about everything Raymond Feist has ever written, I love Octavia Butler, and traditional fantasy like JV Jones, but I also like folks like Tom Clancy, Lee Child, and even Agatha Christie.

What books are you reading now?
Right now I'm neck-deep in edits, and I find it difficult to read for pleasure when I'm reading for work. But, the next three books on my TBR pile are: The Crown Conspiracy by Michael Sullivan, The Chosen by Shay Fabbro, and The Charmer by Autumn Dawn. I really hope I can get some pleasure-reading time soon!

Was writing and publishing your book how you imagined?
No. The publishing world is much different than I could have imagined as an aspiring author, and everyone's path seems to be just that little bit different, so it would be nearly impossible to write a guide everyone could follow. I suppose all creative jobs are like that. I will say, it's never been boring!

Are you working on any other projects we should watch out for?
I've started work on Azuri Fae, which is the sequel to Blood Faerie. I hadn't really planned for it to be next in the queue, but it was screaming at me to write it, so I went with it. I've got the structure all worked out, but there is still one major plot point that I'm angsting over. I'm planning to ignore it until I have to deal with it at about the 2/3 point, so even I am not entirely sure how the story is going to end. So that's the next arrival on the horizon.

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your books or publishing experience?
A different path would have landed me in a different spot. So, considering that I'm very much happy with the way things are going, and I could hardly have asked for a better response to my work, I'd have to say no. I'm just so excited for the future right now. I only wish I could write faster!

What was the hardest part of writing your books?
Becoming the writer I am now has been a learning experience, and I'm sure I have even more lessons ahead. But I wouldn't really call any of it hard. It's not like I'm a brain surgeon or a lumberjack. (I think I'd hate both of those jobs for different reasons!) I love what I do and look forward to it every day. Sure it's work, but it's such a pleasure that I wouldn't complain about a single moment of it.

What do you do when you are not writing?
I draw. I play guitar. I have meaningful conversations with my cat. Although I don't do as much of it as I used to (I'm chained to the keyboard too often these days), I love to travel.

What can readers expect when picking up an India Drummond book to read?
I write books I would want to read myself, so I tend to include a mix of elements: magic, action, sometimes a murder or three, an occasionally laugh, and a touch of romance.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
I love hearing from readers, so if you've read my books (or plan to) and would like to get in touch, please do! You can find me at http://www.indiadrummond.com and on the many social networks to which I'm completely addicted.

Thank you so much for inviting me to chat with you today!

India is an amazing writer, a nice person and someone who I'm sure we are going to be hearing a lot from.
If you think she is as awesome as I do, stalk her - on the interner I mean :-)

Review of Urban Fantasy Romance Tainted Blood by Stacey Kennedy

Tainted Blood (The Dark Element Book One)

Title: Tainted Blood
Series: The Dark Element, Book One
Author: Stacey Kennedy

Official Synopsis:
Earth Witch, Sabi, has been gifted with the ability to see premonitions of the darkness that threatens human lives. Safe in the Otherworld, she adjusts to these new visions…which isn’t going so well. Luckily, she’s got the sexy Guardian, Ryker to help her work through these visions. He’s intent to show her how to distance herself from them and help her gain control of life. Not that it’s really helping. The visions are leaving her crippled and unable to help pinpoint the killer’s locations to stop the acts from happening.

If that’s not enough to deal with, she soon begins to see vampires on a killing rampage in San Francisco. Vampires are being born and left to fend for themselves, resulting in innocent lives being taken while they’re in the throes of blood lust. But as Sabi’s visions begin to kick up a notch, personal matters need to be put aside. And as the mystery begins to unravel, Sabi will begin to see that these visions are getting far more dangerous and that humans are not the only ones at risk―she is.

My Review
Tainted blood is filled with heat-boiling romance, heart-racing danger, and twists and turns that will leave you racing through the pages. We are transported back to the Otherworld with this series focusing on Sabi, a witch who has the ability to see premonitions, and Ryker, a Guardian with a playboy past and serious fighting skills who has his sights on Sabi. The two give us one of the most passionate and action-packed books that will leave you breathless and wanting more.

Sabi is having difficulty with her gift/curse of premonitions. The murders are always gruesome and she is always two steps behind them, unable to pinpoint enough information to stop the murder before it happens. Ryker is a Guardian known for his extraordinary fighting skills and his reputation as a playboy. When Sabi finds herself depressed after the gruesome visions and lack of action, Ryker finds that she is means more to him than the other females had, but is it love? When her premonitions foretell that a bunch of newly created vampires are being made, experimented on and left alone to kill innocents, they must put their feelings aside to try to catch the murderer. With each premonition they are one step closer to catching the killer, Sabi is one step closer to getting a handle on her visions, and they are one step closer to danger. Soon Sabi realizes that the visions aren't as distant as they seem and that she just mab be next victem in line.

This book is amazing, passionate, and un-put-downable. It is a must-read for every PNR and UF fan out there.

This book is rated 5 fangs:
