Q. What book that hasn't been turned into a movie (yet) would you most like to see make it to the big screen, and who would you like cast as your favorite character?

Hmmm, just one! That is nearly impossible but I'm going again for the second week in a row..Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. I was going to go with BDB, but I think that if turned into a movie, it would be looked at as a mix between movie and porn..lol. VA would make an amazing movie! Action, romance, and an actual badass heroine that girls could actually look up to, unlike other characters, but I wont mention names *cough* Bella *cough*..lol. I would pick Emma Stone (Easy A, Superbad and Zombieland) She would have to dye there hair but that is not a huge thing! It was hard to choose an actress, but I think Emma has enough sarcasm and badassness to get it right. Many say that Megan Fox would fit the bill, and I agree if she was a lttle younger. But since she's not, I'll go with Emma
.

Book Blogger Hop

““In honor of Banned Books Week, what is your favorite “banned or frequently challenged book”?”Would also have to go with the Hunger Games. It is a suspenseful thrill ride that will have you going through an emotional roller coaster of emotions.

Banned Books: How do you feel about the censorship of the freedom to read? Do you think the education system needs to be more strict on what children are exposed to in books?

Yes, there are books that are not suitable for children. Yes, we must monitor what children are reading. But, to a certain extent. If a book is deemed unusal or peculiar, that does not constitute as inappropriate. There are many parents who do not want their children reading things that can sully their kids minds: like vampires, witches, and such horrid creatures. This way of thinking I do not agree with. Every child has the right to read according to their taste. The point is that they are READING! Not playing video games, not getting into trouble, but reading. These books play on a child's imagination and we should not stifle a child's imagination nor intrigue in their preferable book genre as long as it is made for YA.

That's it for now! Have a great weekend!

Review and Giveaway of YA Paranormal Romance Book: Hidden by Shalini Boland

Title: Hidden
Series: Marchwood Vampire Series, book 1
Author: Shalini Boland

Official Synopsis
HIDDEN is a paranormal romance spanning the centuries from modern London to 19th century Paris and ancient Cappadocia.

Sixteen-year-old Madison Greene is in foster care until one day she inherits a fortune, she inherits a house, she inherits a cellar full of danger.

Eighteen-year-old Alexandre lives in 19th century Paris. On an archaeological expedition he discovers a lost underground city where his life changes forever.

For each of them, life is finally starting. Little do they know it is closer to ending. Something lies buried which should have been forgotten. A Pandora’s Box that was meant to stay shut. But Madison and Alexandre have never been any good at following the rules. They are about to find everything they’ve ever desired and everything that could destroy them.

Falling in love has never been so dangerous.

My Review
This book is riddled with mystery, filled with charming romance, with an extra helping of fun and danger thrown into the mix. It's creepy, it's funny, it's romantic, it's fun, it is a thrill ride - so hang on tight and get ready to be taken for tons of twists, turns and bumps when you read Hidden!

Two stories come together as past meet present, and reality mixes with legend as numerous mysteries unfold with each page turned.

Alexandre who lives in 19th century Paris goes on a archaeological expedition with his family to find a lost city that has been talked about among the ages. Legend has it that this city is cursed. Forgoing the locals warnings, Alexandre moves forward and uncovers the hidden lost city and what he discovers there will forever change his life.

Mandy lives in modern day London. Having been in the foster care system with her younger brother, she wonders if life will ever get better. It does when one day a man tells her that she has inherited a fortune, along with a new mansion. Her life is forever changed and she finally feel like she has a normal life, until she makes a haunting discovery in her new home when she discovers vampires in her basement.

When all in the world is not what it seems, who can you trust? Each of their lives hangs in the balance in their quest to protect those they love from the men threatening to take it all away.
This book has thrills, chills, and heart-warming love! My one complaint is that is takes a while to get to the vampires, but the journey back and forth through time is definitely worth the wait. This YA paranormal romance that will keep you on your toes and racing through the pages.
This book is rated 4 1/2 stars:

All of my facial expressions while my internet was off until I got it back on

So my Internet was down since Friday! *gasp*. I was pretty bummed since I had a review to post and a giveaway winner to announce so I did what most normal people do: I screamed, I threw a tantrum, drank a shot of Tequila, read a book, forgot what book I was just reading, played music, danced crazy and ate some chocolate until I fell asleep. I woke up in a haze to find my internet still down so I repeated the process until this morning! Now I am back and ready to go. Now let me run off to my next post and announce some giveaway winners. It feels good to be home :-)

Q. Do you have a favorite series that you read over and over again? Tell us a bit about it and why you keep on revisiting it?

I think my Paromantasy readers will know the answer to this one...Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy series. Oh, it is so highly addicting and anyone who has not read it truly needs to run out and buy a copy. Are you running?...I'll wait..lol Here is my review or should I say gush-fest :-) Vampire Academy is the book that completely changed me into a true die hard PNR and UF fan. Why? Because Richelle Meade made a book that is both YA and adults can read. A book that has it all! A book that can easily become "Book Crack"  I can never get tired of it and even after rereading it several times, it still makes my heart race and my eyes sleepy from staying up to read it from beginning to end in one sitting. It has danger, romance, mystery, thrills, chills and a bad-ass heroine that will make you her personal cheering squad.

Q&A and Giveaway with YA Paranormal Romance Author of Hidden (Marchwood Vampire Series) - Shalini Boland!

Photobucket

We are taking out the spotlight and are shining on author of Hidden, book 1 of the Marchwood Vampire Series, Shalini Boland. This book has been getting rave reviews and now I know why. This PNR YA is an unputdownable read that is filled with romance, mystery and a huge side of creepy. Two stories come together as Alexandre who lives in 19th century Paris goes on a archaeological expedition where he uncovers a hidden lost city. What he discovers there will forver change his life. Mandy lives in modern day London. Having been in the foster care system with her younger brother, she wonders if life will ever get better. It does when one day a man tells her that she has inherited a fortune, along with a new mansion. Her life is forever changed and she finally feel like she has a normal life, until she makes a haunting discovery in her new home. This book has thrills, chills, and heart-warming love!

Shalini has taken some time out of her schedule to discuss her book, her career, and a dirty little secret that her family just learned about..lol

Here is Shalini Boland!

Tell us about yourself.
I live in Dorset, England with my husband and two young boys. Writing is my obsession. I have to keep reminding myself that there’s a real world outside and need to be lured away from my laptop with promises of coffee and cake.

How did you start your career as a writer?
Before children, I was a singer/songwriter, but afterwards, the lifestyle became way too hectic. I missed the creativity and ended up writing fiction in my spare moments. I initially wrote just for myself, but eventually decided to try and publish.

The whole premise of the book and the way the vampires are portrayed is so unique! Where did you get the idea for the The Marchwood series?
The first spark of an idea came from a newspaper article about a local family who were evicted from their home as they had bats nesting in their attic. The bats were a protected species and were apparently more important than the family. I thought: hmmm, bats in the attic … How about vampires in the basement?

You have everything from the feisty human Madison, to dreamy vampire Alexandre. Which character is your favorite and why?
I’d have to say Alexandre because I luuurrve him. He’s gorgeous with an old school charm that’s hard to find these days, but he’s not smarmy or cheesy. And he’s not afraid to laugh at himself either.

Which character are you most like?
To be honest, I don’t think I’m like any of the characters in Hidden. I like a quiet life! Maybe they’re my alter egos…

Are your characters based on people you know?
I’ve probably taken a little bit of feistiness from here, a tiny bit of arrogance from there. But there’s no one person I’ve based any character on.

You seemed to reference historical content and really knew the ins and out of how an archaeological expedition is conducted. Did you have to do much research for this?
I spent weeks researching. Even though I only used some of it in the novel, I like to immerse myself in the time period - reading journals and travel guides from the era to get a real sense of place and time. I’m paranoid about getting my facts wrong. Like some Turkish Geology professor is going to tap me on the shoulder and say: ‘excuse me, but you’ve described the rock as chalk, when it should be tufa.

Who are some of your favorite authors?
Paullina Simons for her Bronze Horseman trilogy; Stephenie Meyer for her angsty teen love story and Jean M Auel because she is a master at bringing the past to life.

What books are you reading now?
Recently, I’m going through a dystopian period (who isn’t!). So, my latest reads are: The Hunger Games, Divergent and The (incredible) Knife of Never Letting Go. I also just read Fairy Circle a kooky urban fantasy with brilliant characters.

Are you working on any other projects we should watch out for?
I’m writing Book Two in the Marchwood Vampire Series - Thicker Than Blood. It continues the main story of Maddy and Alex in the present day, as well as going back in time to the 6th century and the Byzantine vampires.

I’ve also just published a post-apocalyptic romance thriller called Outside. I wrote the story a few years ago, but revisited it recently, gave it a good edit and sent it out into the world.

What was the hardest part of writing your book?
I always find the hardest part is knowing what to leave in and what to take out. I know some readers prefer streamlined, fast reads and others prefer a more detailed, build-it-up slowly story. I always aim for a balance, but it’s hard sometimes.

What do you do when you are not writing?
I spend time with my family. My sons seem to have boundless energy, so we go to the park, the forest, the beach, the countryside… anywhere they can run wild! I also love to read and I do like a good movie.

If you could be a supernatural being or possess any power, what would it be?
To have limitless energy and positivity. I guess that might get quite annoying for everyone else though!

Random Question – What is one thing that most people don’t know about you?
When I was about nine, I stole £2 from my mum’s purse. (I recently confessed)

Tell the readers what to expect when reading one of your books.
Readers who enjoyed my novels have said they loved the interweaving plotlines, the suspense and creepiness and the romance and adventure.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
I’m still overwhelmed by the messages I receive from readers who’ve enjoyed Hidden and are desperate for the next one in the series. I hope you like book two as much and I’ll try and finish it as quickly as I can, without compromising the story!

Shalini is an amazing writer and just the sweetest person ever! Hey, you better agree with me cause she is giving away a copy of Hidden to one lucky reader.

This giveaway ends on October 7th, so sign up today!!

Thanks Shalini for stopping by. I cannot wait for the next installment of the Marchwood Vampire Series.

Everyone, come back tomorrow for my review of Hidden.

Now it's Giveaway Time!

Review of Urban Fantasy / Paranoraml Romance Novel by Rose Pressey: No Shoes, No Shirt, No Spells (Mystic Caffe Series)

Title: No Shoes, No Shirt, No Spells
Series: Mystic Cafe, Book 1
Author: Rose Pressey

Official Synopsis
Elly Blair welcomes the chance to escape her ex-fiance and job from hell when Grandma Imelda, ready to retire to sunny Florida, calls for her to take over her little southern cafe.
Elly has no idea her grandmother has baked up magic for the unsuspecting townsfolk for thirty years–and now Grandma Imelda insists that Elly use her own hitherto unsuspected magical powers to carry on the family tradition.
But Elly’s new at this stuff. Her dishes don’t turn out as full of smidgens of enchantment and dashes of wishes come true as she’d hoped. When handsome customer Rory Covington takes a bite of the wrong burger, he ends up capturing the attention of every woman in town. Elly doesn’t know if her feelings for Rory are true or based on her magic gone awry.

Tom Owenton is an investigator the National Organization for Magic sent to look into the magical mishap. Unless Elly can reverse the spell, the cafe will be closed permanently. Tom is more than willing to help Elly out of this magical pickle, but she’s not sure she should accept his offer.
Elly only has forty-eight hours to find a way to reverse the spell, or she’ll lose the cafe and never discover if her feelings for Rory are real.

My Review
This book has it all! It is laugh-out-loud funny, with a dreamy romance, a "who done it" mystery, uncontrollable magic and a cast of insanely unique character that will hook you and keep you turning the pages until the very end. If you like Practical Magic, Bewitched and Hocus Pocus, then you will love this book!

Clumsy, down-on her-luck Elly Blair has been stepped on and disappointed long enough. She escapes her cheating fiance and her horrid job to return to her hometown of Florida where she takes over her  grandmother's cafe. Grandma Imelda teaches her the ropes before zooming off to retiree heaven where she hopes to find fun and love. Right before she leaves, she lets Elly in on a little secret. She's a witch and her secret ingredient is magic. Magic is the key for most of her recipes, but give the wrong spell to the wrong person, and that is cause for disaster. Learning magic in a quick 5 second tutorial leaver her nervous. Luckily, she has her high school buddy by her side to cheer her on from the sidelines.

When a broken-hearted hunk Rory walks into the cafe, she yearns to make him feel better. After taking his order she sends off his "cheer me up" burger to help mend his heart. Problem is, the waitress mixes up the orders while flirting with Rory and everything goes downhill from there. Rory starts getting stalked by his ex, women crowd around him, Rory thinks he's in love with her, and she gets a visit from Tom Owens, an investigator from the National Organization of Magic. When Tom sees the devastation she has caused, he gives her 48 hours to come up with a solution or the cafe will be closed.

If that's not bad enough, on her quest to save the cafe she also finds herself being pulled into her attraction for Rory. The problem is, she doesn't know if he really love her or if he blinded by magic.

With her life in a tailspin, her heart threatening to be broken, and her grandmother's cafe and hard work being threatened, Elly has the world on her shoulders. Will she be able to save the cafe that has been in her family for years? If she does, will she lose Rory, the person she has fallen completely in love with? And the biggest question: Will she ever get things right?

This book is so much fun. It is an unputdownable read that will have you flipping the pages and laughing aloud as you join Elly on her crazy journey of love, mystery and magic.

This book is rated 5 fangs!

Guest Post, Excerpt and International Givieaway by Paranormal Romance Author Felicity Heaton for her new book, Her Guardian Angel

Her Guardian Angel (Her Angel Romance Series)
It’s wonderful to be back here at Paromantasy to talk about my latest release Her Guardian Angel and share an exclusive excerpt of the angel romance novel with everyone.

For those of you not in the know, I’m Felicity Heaton and I write paranormal romances under that name and also as F E Heaton. I’ve been penning my passionate tales since 2005 and have written over forty of them in that time, and around thirty of those are still available. My romance novels often feature vampires as they’re my favourite creature of the night and I like to write them nice and dark, but I do love to write shape-shifters/werewolves, demons and witches too, as well as sexy angels. My latest release is Her Guardian Angel, which is the fifth novel I’ve released this year.

Her Guardian Angel is the fourth book in my best selling Her Angel romance series. Other stories in the series are: Her Dark Angel, Her Fallen Angel, and Her Warrior Angel. Excerpts from the stories and links to where they are available in e-book and paperback can be found at my website: http://www.felicityheaton.co.uk/ebookseries.php?series=Her%20Angel

Her Guardian Angel is currently available in e-book direct from my website, Amazon Kindle Stores, Apple iBookstore, Kobo and Smashwords. It will soon be available from Barnes & Noble and Sony. It’s also available as a paperback from Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble, and will soon be available from other sites.
To set the scene, here’s the official summary of the novel:

Her Guardian Angel

A simple mission becomes a fight for survival in this fantastic instalment in the Her Angel series.

A guardian angel dedicated to his duty, Marcus will do whatever Heaven asks of him, but even his loyalty has its limits. When his superior orders him to gain Amelia’s trust through seduction, Marcus starts to question his mission and his feelings for the beautiful woman he has watched over since her birth.

Amelia has gone from one bad relationship to another, so when a gorgeous guy moves in next door looking like Mr Right, she hopes he doesn’t turn out to be another black knight in disguise. But there’s more to Marcus than meets the eye, and when he rescues her from three demonic men, Amelia is thrust into his nightmarish world—a world where God and the Devil exist, and only one angel can save her from death—Marcus, the angel she’s falling in love with.

On the run from demonic angels and the Devil himself, aided by Marcus’s angel friends and their amazing women, fighting for survival against the odds, Marcus and Amelia discover a love that will last forever.

A love so strong it will shake Heaven and Hell.

Exclusive Excerpt

Amelia struggled to her feet, pulse pounding and stomach turning whenever the monsters managed to get close to Marcus. He was incredible as he fought, both violent and graceful, his movements swift and fierce, and aim true. He sliced down the back of one of the beasts and then turned and brought the spear up again, twisting it at the same time so he could cut through the second beast’s chest. It snarled and then roared, and the sound deafened her. She covered her ears and then shook her head when the beast with the cut arm and back turned her way.

It thundered towards her, heavy footfalls shaking the roof, and her heart felt as though it was going to explode or stop.

Before it could reach her, Marcus was in front of her, his right hand pressed against her stomach, forcing her backwards. He yelled and pushed forwards with the spear, and everything slowed down as it sliced straight into the monster’s stomach. Marcus didn’t stop. He pressed on, his hand leaving her and revealing a hot patch where it had touched, and she could only stare as the staff of his spear shortened again and he tugged it free of the creature’s body, twirled and hacked its head off.

“Keep back,” Marcus said in a thick growling voice and launched himself forwards.

He shot towards the other black creature at the opposite end of the roof, his spear extending again.

Amelia didn’t take her eyes off the monster in front of her. It dropped slowly to its knees, one scaly clawed hand still pressed against the wound in its stomach, and hit the tar roof and collapsed forwards. A pool of blood spread outwards from the neck and she looked down, following it, the world silent as her gaze tracked its slow progression towards her feet. She couldn’t move. She wanted to step back, out of the path of the blood, but her legs wouldn’t cooperate. The slick liquid touched the toes of her cream summer shoes and edged around it, engulfing them. Bile burned up her throat and she swallowed it down, unwilling to be sick even at the sight of such horror.

Marcus yelled and her attention shot back to him. He was fighting the remaining creature, doing all he could to protect her just as he had promised. Blood marred his pale skin and his armour, and his movements were slowing, clumsy now and scaring her. Fear for her own safety became fear for Marcus’s as she watched the fight, unable to tear her eyes away from him, her blood rushing through her head and heart quaking in her chest.

It leapt to her throat when the black beast turned, bringing its sword swiftly upwards and cutting across Marcus’s thigh. His knee hit the roof and he blocked the next slash of the creature’s sword with the armour around his forearm. The sharp metallic ring shot through her, turning her insides, pushing her fear to the limit. Marcus yelled and thrust upwards with his forearm, forcing the beast backwards and gaining more room but Amelia feared that it wouldn’t be enough. He was tiring and the creature showed no sign of stopping.

Marcus dragged the blade of his spear across the roof, scarring the black tar, and lashed out with it. The attack missed but forced the creature away. Marcus breathed hard, held his right hand out towards the creature, and vivid white light shot down from the sky, engulfing it. The beast roared and snarled, clawed at the beam as though it was a tangible thing that it could attack, and then rose into the air and disappeared.

Amelia stared up at the sky, breathing fast and shallow, on the verge of collapse. Heavy footsteps echoed in her ears and the sounds of the world started to return. She brought her gaze downwards.

Marcus slowly walked towards her across the roof, blood sprayed across his blue chest armour and face, smeared on his bare shoulders and thighs. She told herself not to go to him, that he was as dangerous as the monsters that had attacked her, but the weariness in his expression and in his eyes forced her to move. She stepped past the body of the fallen creature and hurried towards him. The warmth that filled his eyes when they fell on her heated her through and chased away her fear. She wanted to throw her arms around his shoulders and cry with relief that it was over and he was safe. She stopped short of him instead, afraid for once of doing what she wanted. Whatever had just happened, it had been real.

Marcus had saved her from men that had been monsters.

He sheathed the two blades at his waist, closed his eyes and hung his head as he drew a deep breath. The weariness written across every inch of him called to her, told her to go to him and soothe his pain, to give him respite and comfort. She looked at his thigh and the long gash there, and the ribbons of blood that trailed down from it towards the armour that protected his shin. The sight of the wound made her take a step forwards but she still hesitated, fearing that she was making a terrible mistake and that she had been right about Marcus. He was another black knight. A man more dangerous than any before him.

And she was afraid of losing her heart to him.

He wiped the back of his hand across his forehead, clearing away the beads of sweat gathered there and pushing his black hair out of his face, and then looked at her.

“Are you alright?” he said.

How could he ask her such a thing when he was hurt because of her, when he’d had to fight those foul things to protect her? Why? Tears welled up but she sniffed them back. She was stronger than this, made of sterner stuff that could withstand whatever life threw at her.

Even this.

Marcus reached out and she didn’t flinch as he smoothed his fingers across her cheek as though wiping something away. She leaned into his touch and the hurt in his eyes lifted again, until he looked almost as he had done last night when they had kissed. Happy? She had felt happy in that moment too and she wanted to feel that again.

She didn’t want to feel scared, not of those things that had tried to hurt her or of Marcus.

He had protected her, had fought for her, but she couldn’t look at him without feeling a lingering trace of fear.

She would overcome it. Marcus had done nothing to deserve her fear. He had done everything to deserve her trust. She was stronger than this. She was.

Her legs betrayed her and her knees gave out. She didn’t hit the floor. Marcus’s arm was around her in an instant, strong and steady against her back, supporting her and holding her pressed against his body. She felt the wet slide of blood on her leg where his touched it, and felt the granite hardness of his armour against her chest, and the warmth of his skin on her side where his arm curled protectively around her.

Amelia stared up into his silver-blue eyes, amazed and transfixed as the darker flecks of blue in them moved and his irises brightened again.

“Amelia?” he said thickly and she melted into him, her strength leaving her, and couldn’t stop the tears from escaping. A pained look crossed his face as his gaze tracked them over her cheeks and then it softened as he gently wiped them away. “Are you alright?”

She nodded mutely even though she wasn’t sure if she was alright. She was alive, and so was he, and right now that was all that mattered to her. He wasn’t something to fear. He had saved her and she was safe with him.

“We have to leave… I know this is a lot for you to take in, but we are not safe here.” His words brought with them a flash of the man they had left in the alley.

Wasn’t he dead?

She didn’t want Marcus to fight another one of those things.

Amelia nodded again. He was right. They had to leave. But how?

She looked at the roof exit. The man would come that way, wouldn’t he? The others hadn’t. They had been here waiting for her and Marcus. How?

Marcus shocked her back to reality when he bent, slid his other arm under the crook of her knees, and lifted her. Her arms instantly looped around his neck, fear of falling chasing away the madness of everything that had happened for a sweet brief moment before it came crashing back again. She stared at Marcus, trying to force herself to see him as he was. A man wearing armour, bloodied from his battle against two monsters. A warrior who had protected her.

“Trust me, Amelia,” he whispered so close to her face that his warm breath fanned her neck and she looked at him, deep into his eyes, seeing only hope in them.

“I do,” she said in a low voice and then wasn’t sure it had been the right thing to say when he ran towards the edge of the roof and leapt off.

Amelia’s eyes slowly widened as they hurtled towards the roof of the next building over fifty feet below them and she dug her fingers into Marcus’s hair, holding on for dear life. She opened her mouth to let out a scream and curled up, bracing for impact. Was this how her short life was going to end?

She turned to face Marcus and his gaze met hers, expression awkward and bordering on irritated. Not the sort of face she had expected from a man about to die.
They hit the roof.

Rather than the collision she had braced for, it felt more like Marcus had jumped barely a few feet. He landed in a crouch with her tucked as close to his chest as his blue armour allowed, and then stood. Her heart slowly came unstuck from the back of her throat and dropped into her chest, and she stared back up at the roof of the building he had leapt from, unable to believe they had fallen so far without injury.

Something in Marcus’s eyes said that he hadn’t expected that to happen either. He looked over his shoulder at the back of his armour, frowned, and turned to her. There was worry in his eyes that hadn’t been there during the battle on the roof or their escape from the alley.

“Is something wrong?” she said and his silence and the confusion mixing with the fear in his eyes told her there was.

Amelia looked at his shoulders, remembering the two long slits in the back of his armour.

He hadn’t expected to fall.

Just what had he expected to happen?

Biography:

Felicity Heaton is a romance author writing as both Felicity Heaton and F E Heaton. She is passionate about penning paranormal tales full of vampires, witches, werewolves, angels and shape-shifters, and has been interested in all things preternatural and fantastical since she was just a child. Her other passion is science-fiction and she likes nothing more than to immerse herself in a whole new universe and the amazing species therein. She used to while away days at school and college dreaming of vampires, werewolves and witches, or being lost in space, and used to while away evenings watching movies about them or reading gothic horror stories, science-fiction and romances.

Having tried her hand at various romance genres, it was only natural for her to turn her focus back to the paranormal, fantasy and science-fiction worlds she enjoys so much. She loves to write seductive, sexy and strong vampires, werewolves, witches, angels and alien species. The worlds she often dreams up for them are vicious, dark and dangerous, reflecting aspects of the heroines and heroes, but her characters also love deeply, laugh, cry and feel every emotion as keenly as anyone does. She makes no excuses for the darkness surrounding them, especially the paranormal creatures, and says that this is their world. She’s just honoured to write down their adventures.
