Review and Giveaway of Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy Novel The Scarlet Dagger by Krystle Jones

Title: The Scarlet Dagger
Series: The Red Sector Chronicles, #1
Author: Krystle Jones

Official Synopsis
The strength of Sloane’s heart is about to be put to the ultimate test.
After the Eclipse – the night vampires began openly slaughtering human victims – everything changed. Out of fear, the government salvaged what remained of the human population and enclosed them in massive, security-laden cities called White Sectors, while marking the vampire infested territory as Red Sectors.

When seventeen-year-old Sloane McAllister’s twin brother disappears, she seems to be the only one who thinks he isn’t dead, and vows to stop at nothing to find him. Gathering her courage, she braves the Red Sector to search for clues to his whereabouts. By chance, she encounters Aden, a handsome, charismatic vampire with a hidden agenda. He turns Sloane against her will, and whisks her away to his underground city. Enemies quickly become friends as Sloane struggles against her attraction to Aden, and resists her growing loyalties to the creatures that ruined her life. But the vampires themselves are the least of her problems. The city is harboring a devastating secret, one that could change the tide of the war and threaten to destroy everything Sloane has come to believe in.

Heart-stopping action and scorching romance collide in this dystopian thriller

My Review
This book in three words: Suspenseful, Thrilling, unputdownable

I didn't know what to expect when I started this book being that it is from a new author. What I didn't expect was a book that would quickly become one of my favorite YA novels.

The book follows Sloane, a teenage girl turned vampire hunter that is on a search for her twin brother who is presumed dead. After the Eclipse vampires took over her neighborhood and forced the community to run for their lives and rebuild while putting their old neighborhood under locked and key. It is now known as the Red Sector. Feeling as though her brother is still alive she sneaks away and heads straight for the Red Sector - what she finds changes her life forever. She is attacked and turned into the very thing she hates - a vampire. What is even more surprising is that she still feel, looks and acts like herself. The things that attacked are nothing like the strand of vampire she has become. Waking up in vampire society, she learns that everything is not so black and white and the ones she vowed to kill may be the ones that save her life. When the world as you knew it is turned upside down - who do you trust?

Sloane is bad-ass, snarky, smart, tough and all kinds of funny. She is also determined and you better watch out if you stand in her way. When she becomes a vampire by mysterious and sexy Aden, she doesn't really know what to think, but one thing is for sure - she is not walking into anything blindly. She questions everything and goes against authority aka Aden. She has a love/hate relationship with Aden and you don't really know who to trust until the end. Aden and Sloane's chemistry is through the roof, but you can't help but feel conflicted for your feelings with her because of the people and life she left behind because he decided to turn her. Nothing is simple in Sloane's worked. You will be wondering who Sloan can trust, who is after her and what it is the other vampires are hiding from her. This mystery will lead to a major cliffhanger that will have you screaming for book 2. The action is non-stop, the mysteries are endless and the twists and turns will give you whiplash that you actually don't mind guessing.

I loved this book which is why I added it in my Top 25 books of 2011. It is a non-stop thrill ride filled with action, romance and danger.
