Today is a review of one of my favorite dystopian romance novels, Far Shore, by Traci Slatton!
Title: Far Shore
Series: After (Volume 3)
Author: Traci Slatton
Genre: Dystopian Romance
An old enemy wreaks new havoc at the end of the world…
After the mists’ lethal apocalypse, mankind’s only hope for survival lies broken and battered, the prisoner of a ruthless sociopath who will stop at nothing to hurt him. Emma sets out to rescue him. She faces an ultimatum and must relinquish everything she holds dear. As Arthur teeters on the brink of life and death, Emma’s healing ability fails. Her own despair tests her, and she must grow stronger than she ever dreamt possible as she confronts the truth of her own heart.
In a time of apocalyptic despair, love is put to the test…
A mystical odyssey, a haunting love...
Have you ever been so haunted, so obsessed and so invested in a series that you reread the books a few times over? You dream of what the future holds for its characters and you count the days until the next installment is released? If so, then you are crazy - but not to worry because so am I. I am absolutely infatuated and invested in these characters, in the story, in this entire series.
Far Shore is a hauntingly raw, yet beautiful tale of survival and love that will keep you at the edge of your seat from the very first page.
Emma has known love, heartbreak and what it takes to survive. Yet, she is about to face the ultimate test of willpower when she is forced back into a life and a love that she had turned her back in order to keep her family together.
When Emma learns that the love of her life is at the brink of death, she has to give up everything she holds dear to rescue him. What she finds will forever change her life. Her abilities unavailable, her family gone, and the love of her life a mere shell of what he was put Emma in a state she has never been in... completely and utterly alone.
When everything you love is taken away, will you have the power to hold on and get it back, or will you lose it all in the end?
I find myself using the word haunting every time I review this series, but there is no better word to describe it. The situations faced are sometimes barbaric; the love shared is not that of fairy tales, but born of strength, respect and an almost wild animal instinct. The friendships are drawn from the familiar feeling of loss and the happiness in finding others that know and understand your pain. Yet, through all the darkness is a light that shines when Emma, Arthur and the gang have those few precious calm moments together of just being happy and celebrating in the life that is still theirs. These moments are precious gifts and as a reader, the insights gained are monumental.
Far Shore is unputdownable - a must-read. Trust me, you will thank me later.
Have you read one a dystopian romance book? Which is your favorite?
